Guest guest
Hello, I'd like to intoduce myself. My name is Tammi. I joined a short time ago, and I'm enjoying this list. I've learned a lot. I decided to ask my question here on the off chance that you may have some advice. I am a mother of four children ages 9, 5, 3, and 6wks. After years of going to doctors for fatigue and various aches and pains I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after the birth of my 3 yo. My physician refused to treat me because I was breastfeeding my daughter who was over a year old at the time. I had done some advocacy work for breastfeeding mothers where I lived, so I knew there was a physcian here that was also a board certified lactation consultant. Since my daughter was over a year old and such, I was treated with an anit-depressant (which I was already taking for post-partum depression.), mild muscle relaxers, Ginko, and of course diet, excercise and a good sleep schedule. I lucked out when I found her - not only was she a lactaction expert, but she also believes in intergrating alternative medicine with traditional. This worked great. In fact it worked so well that I was taken off the anti-depressant and was able to take the muscle relaxers during a flare-up. Of course when I found out that I was pregant I was taken off all meds. If I had a flare up. I was given a trigger point injection. this worked for a while. Now, I am taking no meds, nor am I taking the ginko. The reason is because the baby is so young. I am having a terrible time with my fibromyalgia - which makes my ADHD worse. In the past month I've had a stomach virus, migraine headaches (I have a history of them - they seem to be caused by hormones.), a cold, thrush - which led to mastitis, and vertigo - on top of the fibromyalgia. If I were a horse I'd be shot or put out ot pasture;-) My question is this. I honestly think my body needs a good cleansing out. How do I go about this. Is it safe for me during breastfeeding? Weaning is NOT an option, as I do not believe in giving formula unless it's medically necassary. Tammi
Guest guest
have you thought about supplementing with almond milk for the short time of doing a cleanse. I also am a big nursing advocate but for whatever reason I was not producing enough milk for my little one and he starved for 5 months before I caught on. I think it was hydrogenated oils but I have no proof. What I mean by supplementing is pump out breast milk and freeze it and mix it with almond milk that you make yourself to make the breast milk last longer. I had to get my wisdom teeth out when my little one was 4 months old so I had to do this. Guest guest
Tammi, I was also diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Occasionally during a flare-up I resort to meds, but the thing that has helped me most is chiropractic. Have you tried it? I started to feel better within a week of starting adjustments. It was pretty amazing how my " structural " /alignment problems must have been impacting my muscle tension and trigger points. Good luck ! Guest guest
Hi Tammi, It really does sound like you need a full body cleanse. It may not be what you'd planned, to put the baby on a formula, but it sounds like the most survival option under the current circumstances. However, it's not all bad. Here's a baby formula you can make yourself, which has a high protein content, and tastes delicious: Put 1/2 cup sprouted organic whole barley in a piece of muslin. Tie it loosely to allow for expansion and place it in a (non-aluminium) pot containing 4 pints of water. Boil SLOWLY for 6 1/2 hours with pot slightly vented so steam can escape.Boil it as slow as you can manage it on your stove. Barley water will turn very, very pink. This gives about the right consistency of barley water. You don't feed the baby the actual barley, only the water mixed using a ratio as follows: 15 ounces of barley water 10 ounces of homogenized organic milk 3 ounces of organic corn syrup The amount of syrup can be varied, depending on the baby. I used a Stainless Steel pot, and kept it for that purpose only - didn't use it for anything else. This formula is quite a bit of work, but is the healthiest formula available - babies absolutely thrive on it. And it really does taste good :-) If your baby cannot take normal milk, substitute it with other milk - best would be almond milk. (this would also need to be sprouted almonds, let me know if you need the recipe for that). Usually you hear of babies spitting the milk back out again etc.. My son never had that problem with this milk. It's very easy to digest, and chockerful protein. Jamie loved drinking it, and actually drank it alongside his solid food until he was 4! It's that good! Good luck. Lisa - Tammi Upshaw herbal remedies Tuesday, November 26, 2002 5:08 PM [herbal remedies] bf and fibromyalgia Hello,I'd like to intoduce myself. My name is Tammi.
