Guest guest
I got these " nerve food " tea & tincture recipes from " Mr.Tracy's Corner " (another ) a few weeks ago and have been using it myself, also passed it on to my SIL who is bi-polar and needs to get off the medication because of the side effects. According to the writeup, people have had success with these formulas because it has stopped " brain seizures " common in epilepsy and bi-polar disease. My SIL has not reported any results yet, but we are very hopeful. She and her daughter suffer from this. The tincture is simple - follow the instructions posted in this site's archives for how to make a tincture, and use black cohosh, blue cohosh and blue vervain. The " nerve food tea " is pretty simple too: Mix equal parts of these herbs (like 1/2 ounce each) and prepare as a tea (mix with 2 pints of hot water, steep for 30 minutes. Strain out the herbs and use them in the next batch with some fresh herbs.) Drink 1 cup, 3x daily. You can put a little honey in it, but don't use sugar. Black Cohosh Cayenne ** Use half as much cayenne the 1st batch, it is HOT! Hops flowers or strobile Lady Slipper root Lobelia herb or seed Scullcap herb Valerian root Wood betony herb Mistletoe My personal results so far (2 weeks of using these) are that I am sleeping better, my chronic lower back pain is reducing significantly, and my numb feet (from the back injury) appear to be starting to " come to life " after several years of being tingly and numb. Good luck, I hope this is of use. Guest guest
Would the "nerve food tea" be good to use for anxiety feeling attacks? Thanks Gina
Guest guest
My guess is yes, very good for anxiety. The lobelia, skullcap and valerian root are, I think, known for their calmative properties. I used valerian for several years in what I called my " bitch pills " remedy for PMS - valerian root, astragalus, vitex and black cohosh. Part of the effect was to help me keep calm under stress, as well as modulate those mood swings. If you try the nerve food tea, please let me know what results you get. I'm very interested to know how it might work for other people. Guest guest
Just as an added note here to keep this discussion in a Naturopathic perspective. Remember that all herbs and herbal preparations are tools and that by themselves they "cure" nothing. They must be used in a program to effect a permanent healing which must include cleansing and / or detoxification as well as taking a look at the stress in one's life. If one is not addressing the "cause" of a disease when using herbs or an herbal program, then one is using these herbs the same way a Medico uses pharmaceuticals and is only addressing "symptoms". Yes, one can use herbs (very safely) to relieve symptoms to some degree, but I ask this question. Why just shoot for relieving symptoms, when one can affect an entire cure, by going to and addressing the "cause"??? There is a problem when dealing with Psychiatric "labels" such as "bi-polar", "explosive syndrome", "Schizoid", "Rhinotelexomania", etc ad nauseum. Such labels are tremendously misleading as they describe a symptom and as such lead us down the garden path of trying to handle said symptom rather than searching for a "CAUSE" of an overall condition that may (and usually does) have many different symptoms. Just because the symptom is real does not mean the label is. Get the idea??? With such labels there is NO chance of leading to a permanent resolution of the problem as one is then stuck with trying to handle the symptom and never address the cause. Not only do almost all Psychiatric "disorders" fall into this category, but most medical diseases of a chronic nature also fit into this kind of misnomer phenomenon including fibromyalgia. If you were to trace back the above symptoms with these fancy Psychiatric and Medico labels from the viewpoint of looking for a "cause", you would find that a better label would be "Bio-chemical Toxicity" or "Mental Toxicity". Boy, now we have a couple of labels we can do something with, for such labels indicate what the "cause" of the problem is. Of course there is no money in such labels, for they put the onus of responsibility back on the individual to get himself detoxified LOL, and doesn't put a dime into the hands of the Medicos or the Psychs. ) Just as one can have a toxic body due to pesticide, steroid, irradiated, GE, and hormone laden foods, one can also be in a toxic relationship with a boss at work, or a supposed "loved" one, and who are very busy doing us in. All of these factors can play a part in bringing on disease. As an example: I have a friend whose husband had been doing her in for years, and you supposedly could have labelled her as having "explosive syndrome". No drug, herb, or even nutritional approach came close to handling this condition until one day she had the realization her husband was actively, suppressively, killing her. She got tough with herself, and then divorced the asshole, and hasn't had a "mental" problem since. She turned into the sweetest, highest toned gal you could possibly imagine. The cure for the common cold is NOT Echinacea and Garlic, although these will handle the symptoms to some degree by themselves. The cure for the common cold is Echinacea, Garlic, a complete Body Cleanse of all organs, and a thorough confronting and handling of "Losses" brought about by being connected to "Toxic" people who have been overtly or covertly doing us in. If you do this, you'll never get a cold again regardless of how many mud puddles you go jumping into. The same goes for these "psych" labelled problems. The first place to look is toxic relationships and the stress these add to our lives. The second thing to address is toxicity in the body, and how we can use a nutritional and herbal program to cleanse and detoxify this piece of meat we carry around. That's it. That's all of it. 80% of all my patients forget what was wrong with them in the first place just by doing my Total Body Cleanse program as outlined in the files. Another 18% almost always have some major stress happening in their lives and need to confront that first before a major herbal / nutritional program really bites. And then there's 2 to 3% who are actively trying to do the rest of us in, and on whom nothing works. These are the "Neggies" (Suppressives) who specialize in making things go wrong for all of us. But, 80% get well on just doing the Total Body Cleanse regardless of what was wrong with them including, Fibro, Cancer, Heart Disease, certain Mental conditions, etc, etc. I lose more patients that way. ROTFLOL But, then again, that is the idea. Isn't it??? ;o) Much love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - writergrrrl48 <writergrrrl48 herbal remedies Sunday, December 22, 2002 10:58 AM [herbal remedies] Re: bi polar disorder/explosive syndrome My guess is yes, very good for anxiety. Guest guest
This was awesome - thank you for the reminder to not focus on symptoms, but to look for the root cause and eradicate it. I do get caught up in trying to alleviate my symptoms, and this was a great re- focus. Thanks for the education :-) CheriB herbal remedies , " Dr. Ian Shillington " <Dr.IanShillington@G...> wrote: > Just as an added note here to keep this discussion in a Naturopathic perspective.
