Hello Everyone

Since the winter is coming and some of us are likely to get a cold or two, I have some recipes for cough drops and cough syrup using horehound. This is supposed to be very good for coughs and chest congestion. Am I right Doc? If it's alright I'd like to send some into the list. Also, I have two hot chocolate recipes. One for Mayan hot chocolate and another Aztec hot chocolate. I know, these aren't herbal remedies but they can remedy the soul on a very cold winter day. If this is alright, let me know and I will post them to the list. I just thought I'd ask first.

Dear Pearlmoon,

Suz and Don I see already gave you the go-ahead to post these and this is great. No one needs permission to post one of their recipes to the list, and in fact, this is encouraged ;o)

Perhaps Suz might be interested in starting a file for some of these as they look pretty neat. You can bet that I'll be trying them out ;o) The one thing I might caution you or anyone else, is on posting recipes that have white, brown or any processed sugar in them. These can be very damaging, especially for children. I've alway thought is was ludicrous to see medico cough syrup that was supposedly trying to cure a cough and / or a cold, but was then loaded full of white sugar which further suppressed the immune system. Also, when it comes to coughs, never forget Lobelia. I don't think there's any expectorant that comes close to Lobelia, so remember to add that into your recipes guys.

Let's stick with Raw Honey, and / or Stevia, and / or Maple Syrup, etc in our recipes. OK??? Perhaps Suz or Don has the time to do a little research on a complete list of natural sweeteners that are not detrimental to our bodies??

One of the reasons I swear by Raw Organic Honey is that it has natural antibiotics in it. At one time, there was a botulism scare going around over honey, but in my books that was just another piece of Black PR put out by the pharmaceuticals.

Love,

Doc

PS. I will be unavailable for the rest of today, but I will get around to answering those questions directed at me yesterday, within the next day or two ;o)

If you could give me to the end of the week I can do it. I have allot going on this week, that's all. By the way folks, my neck surgery went rather well. I can feel my right arm and hand again. The headaches have almost gone, and I can hold my head up straight. I haven't had to take a pain pill in three days so that's very good. My swallowing and my voice are almost back to normal. Just thought I'd give you all an update, I'm feeling a little better everyday. Now, my lumbar spine gets the same thing this spring. Three discs have to go and the same kind of bars and plates as in my neck. I hope to be doing the jig by summer. Wish me luck!!

Mine gets a cough at night, dry and non-productive. My aunt used to call it "croupe" (sp?) I am curious about the Lobelia too. How much is to much in a cough syrup? Don't want to add too much and make him sick.

Hey Doc, since you are aound~ my son just has a cough with no other symptoms this time of year. Drives me nuts, but he is okay with it~~ will lobelia do something to stop just the cough if there isn't any phlegm? Thanks Doc, you're a gem! Thats wonderful news Pearl.... you have as much time as you need... there is no rush to putting things in the files.... Suzi pearlmoon wrote:

Many Blessings

Thank you for that information. I didn't know that regular sugar could do that to you. Personally, I love honey and prefer it.

Re: [herbal remedies] Interested?

[herbal remedies] Interested?

Hello Everyone

Since the winter is coming and some of us are likely to get a cold or two, I have some recipes for cough drops and cough syrup using horehound. This is supposed to be very good for coughs and chest congestion. Am I right Doc? If it's alright I'd like to send some into the list. Also, I have two hot chocolate recipes. One for Mayan hot chocolate and another Aztec hot chocolate. I know, these aren't herbal remedies but they can remedy the soul on a very cold winter day. If this is alright, let me know and I will post them to the list. I just thought I'd ask first.

Many Blessings

Probably the sugar ;o) Do you know that there's no such thing as The Cold and Flu Season. There's just no such thing.

What it really is, is The "Debauchery" Season and it starts with Halloween (lots of sugar), goes through Thanksgiving (lots of sugar, plus lots of greasy fat foods), sluggishly makes it through X-mas and New Years (more sugar and greasy fat foods then at any other time of the year, plus all the negative relatives who normally we wouldn't give the time of day to, are now showing up on grandma's doorstep to set those negative nasty barbs into us one more time making us feel incompetent and small), and with no formal detoxing done after this period of insanity, we stay sick for another two months as the poor body tries to cope with all this build up of JUNK !

Now, you could give him some Echinacea and Garlic, plus some Lobelia (which will make him cough more = actually gets the phlegm out ;o), but this will probably turn on a detox which will in turn cause him to go into a Healing Crisis and send his temperature up to 102 which may freak you out and if you're not paying attention and forget this list of great natural healers, cause you to call the MD who'll give him an antibiotic (or something stronger and worse like a flu shot) that will suppress his immune system even further, and keep him feeling poorly for the next 4 months.

Then again, you could shoot the TV with a 45 Automatic or a 357 Magnum, knock off all processed sugar products, eradicate all processed grain products, put him on a 100% organic diet and have him do the Total Body Cleanse as in the files, and then when everyone else around him is sicker than a dog, and dropping like flies from this plague or that, he'll be happier than he's ever been, playing up a storm, singing at the top of his lungs outside in minus degree weather, and full of boundless energy. He might be a little lonely because all his friends are sick and he has to play alone most of the time, but he'll get a chance to get some good reading in and improve his education level as well.

You see Patty, you got me going on one of my favorite hobby horses LOL ;o)

To answer your question hon, the Lobelia will turn on and then clear up his cough by turning on the phlegm and then expectorating it. It'll work faster if you do all the other stuff as well ;o)

Love,

Doc
