Guest guest
Dear ??? Of course you are welcome to disagree with me all you want ;o) There's no place on the planet at this time that does not have one form of pollution or another in various degrees. It's not that you are wrong, but in essence, I'm talking about the lesser of evils so to speak. I seriously doubt there's one pure food source left available to us with the amount of planetary pollution going on. I'm also sure that the Farm Raised Fish Industry have promoted their "Black PR" campaign against the ocean fish industry and that this is some of the "noise" you've been hearing. Furthermore, most of the mercury reports have had to do with fish out of the Great Lakes or inland waters and when you throw those stats in with the ocean fish stats, the overall picture looks pretty glum. In reality 4/5ths of the world's surface is covered by ocean, and a great deal of its mass is under water if you'll pardon the pun ;o). Most of the earth's oxygen supply is created in the oceans, and so is most of the purification of our pollution. On a relative scale of pollution horrors, ocean fish is far better off than most land animals, and the amount of toxicity in one amalgam mercury filling in a tooth would probably be more than all the mercury found in the ocean fish one person could eat in a life time. I'm just trying to put this in perspective. Normally, ocean fish can be an excellent source of protein and Omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids if you can overlook the black PR of the FDA, Farm Raised Fish, Beef, Pork, and Chicken industries. Like any other "meat" protein, it can be overdone, and I'd never live on a sole diet of fish (as much as I adore sushi ;o). I think the key word here is "Balance". The FDA is doing a lousy job making people aware of how polluted fish are today probably for money reasons.Check any data on fish and you'll see you can hardly be sure of any fish without contaminents. Especially bad for pregnant women and children. You're playing the lottery when you eat fish today.
