Guest guest
Doc, you brought up cholesterol in your post about meat, and I have some questions about this, if that's okay. My last blood test a few weeks ago showed good " good cholesterol " levels, but a bit high on the " bad cholesterol. " I was very, very surprised because I eat very little in the way of animal products. I asked the nurse if this test could be simply reflecting one or two meals I'd had, as opposed to the overall picture... and she said that no, it was the overall picture and wouldn't be colored by a meal or two. Others I've talked with have disagreed with this. Could you please set me straight on this? Could one or two meals have thrown off the picture? Then one gal said she was a vegan for years and still had high cholesterol levels, and had to go on medicine for it. I don't get it. She said it was hereditary. To my knowledge it's not hereditary in me. The nurse said mine wasn't high enough to be " worried " but that I should do something about it. BUT she also said if it was elevated in 6 months when they check it again (and they did check it after a fast, btw) they will put me on medicine. Someone else said that medicine could do your liver in, and they have to check the liver all the time you're on it....... so needless to say, I don't want that medicine! Can you please tell me how someone who is a vegan can have high cholesterol? And can you please advise me the best way to make sure mine isn't high -- or at least throw some light on it? I was thinking about your newsletter about enzyme inhibitors and wondering if that could play in to it? Thanks, Melinda
Guest guest
Dear Melinda, I'm not sure if this has been answered or not. I seem to recall that Don posted something on this so I'll be brief. Cholesterol can be stored in the Liver, and also the Gallbladder, plus the Liver makes its own cholesterol as well. If your Liver and/or your Gallbladder happen to be toxic, they can cause high level cholesterol readings as the body's cholesterol balancing mechanism is thrown outa whack and give you the phenomena you are describing. Best bet would be for you to do a thorough Liver/Gallbladder cleanse to correct this. While doing this, I'd go on a strict juice fast as well. Hope this helps.
