Guest guest
Greetings everyone! I have a question for all of the 'organic only' eaters. If you are invited to dinner, whether it be at someone's home or restaurant or just offered something to eat while visiting someone, how do you explain to them that you only eat your food 'certified organic' without sounding rude or hurting their feelings? I recently visited a family member's home and was offered to stay for dinner and I politely (so I thought???) declined and tried to explain why and it didn't turn out well...she became insulted. So it has spread like wildfire that I am 'to good to have a meal with the family'. Could it be that I am being rude by refusing to eat one meal outside of my normal diet? I am just wondering what everyone else does or how would you handle a situation like this? ~Nakota
Guest guest
Dear Nakota, No, I don't think you're being rude. Everyone is entitled to their own convictions and opinions. It sounds like you were making an effort to be gentle about it, so if that still upset some people, so be it. My son is on a strict organic only diet - when we go somewhere, I take his food with me, so as not to inconvenience anyone. All the family are aware of this, and although not all agree, at least they don't take offense. Try and sit down with them and explain to them why you are doing this. Maybe they are just lacking of information. After all, most of us have researched quite a bit and have so gathered lots of information. Other people have never heard of any of this, so are in the dark as to the WHY. Guest guest
Hi Nakota! You can't control how other people react or feel about your actions. Just be true to yourself, and eventually "the others" will come around. I know, because I went through the same when I stopped eating meat - surrounded by a meat eating family. If I visit someone who dosn't know what to serve for me and my daughter, I bring my own food, and prepare it in their home, so they can see that it isn't so bad. My family and friends have now totally accepted my "weird" eating habits, I think mainly because I don't preach about my way is the right way. My way is the right way --- for me.
