Guest guest
So, while I am writing with questions, here is one that I have been meaning to ask for some time. I rely on niacin for emotional stability. Sometime I take none. But if I have am feeling blue/down, or if I have some emotional upheaval that leaves me feeling stressed, I take 500 milligrams and it pretty much cheers me right up. My daughter, who likes and uses herbs and vitamins, says that niacin builds up in the tissues and becomes poisonous to the system. How accurate is her concern? Am I taking too much? Guest guest
Niacin is absorbed in the intestines and stored primarily in the liver Any excess is eliminated through the urine. No real toxic effects are known but as you well know large doses can cause temporary flushing, and tingling /itching sensation. Medically, when using pharmacologic doses of 3 to 9 grams to lower cholersterol. the patient is monitored for liver damage and related gout and arthritic reactions. Guest guest
No, you'd have to take sooo much to even get side effects. I believe it is water soluble and flushed out of the body rather quickly. It is obviously doing great good for you by your own account and you should pay attention to your body, it is telling you the truth here I think ;-) Janet - Terri Lynne Pomeroy herbal remedies Thursday, November 07, 2002 3:01 AM [herbal remedies] What about niacin?
