Vaccines...I'm so aggravated

School sent me a letter home saying that my daughter needs proof of

her HepB vaccines and of her Chicken pox vaccine before November 4

or she will not be admitted back to school. I did not even know

these were required. Hep B is a fairly new vaccine, and which I

thought, were mainly only required by healthcare workers and food

industry workers. Last I checked, Hepatitis was not rampent among

school age children. And as for the Chicken pox vaccine...why NOT

just let the kids get it the old fashioned way?? My daughter is now

12. She had them when she was 6. So now they want proof....PROOF????

No, I did not take her to the doctor when she got them as my mom did

not take me and my sisters to the doctor when we got them. So now

they are telling me that 6 years later I needed

documentation....SINCE WHEN?????????? I'm so frustrated with this.

Thanks for your replies...she may have gotten them as part of her

routine vaccines. Up until now, I've always conformed. Right now I

am having a hard time locating her shot records and our wonderful

family physician has stopped seeing pediatric patients (same doc

I've gone to since I was a child) The only response I've gotten from

the office is to get a Pediatrician, which is really screwing me

because he is and always has been my daughter's primary care

physician for insurance purposes. How do you get a referral from a

primary care to see another primary care doc?? A little notice would

have been nice, especially since he is listed as her primary. School

sent me this letter today with a deadline for Nov 4th. Hardly enough

time to get this straightened out. I just typed up a letter

explaining all of this to the school nurse.

I've been doing some research on the laws regarding vaccines in

Pennsylvania. All are listed as 'required' and the hepB is listed as

recommended. If I realize that she has not gotten it, I am going to

decline it as well. I work in a hospital. This is the first I've

heard of it being a routine vaccination here. As far as I knew, that

and the chicken pox was optional for children. I really see no need

for either of them.

Hej Kim!

I believe that there is some sort of form that you can fill out that gives you

full reponsibility for your childs health if you refuse to take the advice of

" Medical Experts " . I know this because it was a topic on another list I belonged

to a few years back. I'm sure that you could find this form on the net. Good

luck!

Many people don't know this but you don't have to have your kids vaccinated to go to school. Just say you have religious or personal reasons for not having your kids poisoned (vaccinated) and there is nothing they can do about it. They can't deny your kids admittance to public school and all you have to do is sign a paper that says that if there is an outbreak of a disease that a vaccine would normally take care of, you have to keep them home until the outbreak is contained.

Hey Kim,

Calm down now. Check with your local state requirements on vaccination.

Earlier, about oh 3-4 weeks ago there was quite a discussion on

vaccinations. Someone sent a link that will take you to a site that lists

state requirements for opting out of vaccinations. Check with your local

library as well. All states, as far as I know, have a form you can fill out

to say you don't wish your child vaccinated. As far as proof goes, well I

guess you'll just have to tell them and get a written paper signed by a

witness or two that states that yes your daughter had chicken pox. Now where

is that bottle of gin when the stress level goes up. Maybe try a potato or

lime on the forehead and valerian on the cats. Hehehehe

Hey Kim,

Nothing is required, I believe. You can say vaccinations go against your

religious beliefs or maybe Pa. will allow the use of a philosophical belief.

Dig a little deeper. Also you might try asking the school, do they give the

shots at the school?, that if they can guarantee 100? that this vaccination

is perfectly safe, or the doctor and pharaceutical firm that manufactured it

then you might consider it but it really is against your religious belief.

If they can guarantee with the threat of law suit should anything go wrong

they might reconsider whether your daughter truly needs this or not.
