Guest guest
Hi Kathe, Essential Oils are like anything else when it comes to peoples body chemistry. What works for one does not necessarily work for another. Now this only pertains to effects of the limbic system, for the most part, or how they affect your emotions and memories through inhalation of the oils. For massages and oral use they will pretty much work the way they are designed to with very little variation. So you just kind of have to find what you like and what works for you. That is my take on it and my .02 worth. :~) Don - nkbaker2001 herbal remedies Monday, September 30, 2002 9:51 AM [herbal remedies] Kim - essential oils Hi Kim, Now do you think that combo for sleep would work for everyone, or do oils behave differently according to peoples chemistry? I've heard that Ylang Ylang is good for sleep too. do ya know? KatheFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. If you are pregnant, consult your physician before using any natural remedy. 3. The Constitution guarantees you the right to be your own physician and toprescribe for your own health. Guest guest
Yeah, like Don said! Both Bergamot and Cedarwood are sedating oils...as is Ylang Ylang. Thing about Ylang Ylang is, it's so sweet, I'm not real fond of it. I like it to a point, which is usually mixed with something else. I'm more of an earth/spicy type when it comes to scents. Good oils to try to help you sleep are Lavender (but not too much as higher doses are stimulating), Bergamot, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, ermmm...Patchouli. Ugh, having a brain fart here, lol. Lavender and Peppermint 2:1 is a good nighttime blend. I love that in the bath. It all depends on the person really, especially when it comes to how you react emotionally to an oil. You might read that something is supposed to help you sleep, but when you use it you find yourself flying around the house in the middle of the night vacuuming, lol (been there) A good way to use lavender eo...put a couple drops neat on the bottoms of your feet before bed. Your feet are the most porous parts of the body so it's readily absorbed...plus you won't find yourself up all night smelling lavender as it might be too strong of a scent when you are trying to sleep. Oh! Another good way to help you sleep is Lavender and Clary Sage 2:1 mixed in a bit of carrier oil and massaged on your feet and legs. You could actually add more or less clary...but that's another scent I'm not too fond of so I usually keep it to one drop for every two of Lavender. You eventually begin to know what you like instinctively after using them for a while. Everybody is different. Speaking of everybody being different. Patchouli is something you want to go light on. Either people hate it or love it...and those that hate it can smell you coming from a mile away, lol. Just thought I'd throw that in there for future reference. Patchouli is probably my favorite scent...along with Sandalwood. Guest guest
Mine too Kim. I love patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood. Nice thing about these oils is the older they get the better they are and don't need to be kept refrigerated. Unless, of course you happen to live in Arid-zona.
