You can always try this:

Backache Remedy:Here it is - it's simple and you probably have the ingredients in your kitchen. Take 1 teaspoonful of Cayenne red pepper and 1 teaspoonful of dried mustard powder and mix in a small bowl with about 2 Tablespoonfuls of hot water, to make a watery paste. Spread this paste on a washcloth, and fold the cloth over so the paste is inside. Dribble some hot water on the washcloth so the fumes (yes!) come up through the washcloth. Slap this on your achy back and massage. You should feel the heat from the pepper and mustard ease into the achy muscles. (I think the heat is what heals - seems to bring lots of blood to the area, helping the massage to go real deep.) That's it. Now be careful not to get the pepper/mustard paste on your skin directly; it will cause an abrasion and scabbing.

Feel free to dig around in the files and message archives. Tons of good info in there. Welcome aboard daughter. Glad to see you here.

Hi Shelly,

Do you have some mustard seed? All you need is mustard seed. Grind it into a powder. Yes a hot cloth will help but the mustard and/or cayenne helps to bring more blood to the area hastening the healing process.

Where do you get the dry mustard powder? Would just a hot cloth work?

Hi Shelly,

Yes you can get mustard seed at most grocery stores though it is usually yellow mustard and not as strong as the black mustard. Either way it still works. You might be able to find it at your local HFS as well.

It is the oils that are contained within the seeds. These oils are known as having "rubifacient" properties which means they irritate the skin a lot. Which is why you must be careful not to get this on the skin as it will burn the skin. This is why you use a cloth to put the mustard in. Very potent stuff and very good at what it does.

Say, what is it about the mustard and all of it's little intricacies that makes it work like this when applied?Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. [herbal remedies] Salutations

By the way, Im Clarise Eitner, Don Eitner's daughter. I'm seventeen years old and I recently found out about this group from my father, so I thought I'd check it out, being as I am interested in herbal remedies, and other related natural subjects. By the way, don't let my screen name throw you off, for some reason it wouldn't let me enter my full name. I'll have to go back and remedy that sometime.Anywho, just thought I'd introduce myself. By the way, my boyfriend has been having extreme lower back pains for the better part of two years, does anyone have any ideas of what could be useful here?? Thanks, Clarise Alice Marie Eitner.Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2.
