Guest guest
Mike, I was really hoping Don or Doc or someone would have replied by now - I am not familiar with Oxycontin...I would try taking MSM 2 tabs 3 times a day and see if that helps (try for a couple months - if no improvement...there are other things... Deep tissue oil might give some relief back there... Another suggestion would be dig into the messages in the files for past messages. Type in Back Pain or Back and see what comes up... I find all sorts of things this way. And hopefully more will respond to your email soon... with more info than I can give you. Guest guest
Mike Just read about this drug.... do you know there is a lawsuit being filed for people who take this drug? This is a dangerous drug from what I've read... Oxycodone is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. It is a pain reliever. Pain relievers would be slippery elm, white willow bark....come to mind right off. It comes to mind Essiac might help some too. Guest guest
Oxycontin is a very strong and very very addictive opiate based pain-killer. It's the kind of thing heroin addicts keep around and it's also the sort of drug that has led to heroin use when the prescription runs out and the pain sets in. So, the first thing I would ask is, " Is there even a trace of physical addiction at this point? " If the answer is yes, then there's going to be some pain with the detox. I'm not sure exactly how long an oxycontin detox is but for most opiates (other than methadone) it's about a week. After that week you can be relatively sure that whatever pain you have is due to injury rather than detoxification. I don't know of any herbs that will deal with pain in the same way as something like oxycontin. Hopefully somebody else will know better so that you can begin to live pain free without being on such a dangerous drug. Good luck!!! Guest guest
IMHO anyone with chronic pain should research and carry out a cleansing program. A fine example of a cleansing program is right here in the files herbal remediesDoc%20Ian% 20Shillington%20ND/The%20Total%20Body%20Cleanse%20Program . Research topics including, fasting, tissue cleansing, colon cleansing, mucusless diet etc. RA especially is one of the most noted conditions that improve for the better (then disappear) with an intensive cleansing program. One example is Dr. Christopher, who was born with advanced RA, and managed to successfully treat himself and many others with the condition. You might also research urine therapy. From http://www.herbsfirst.com/drbio.html " Dr. Christopher had special understanding and empathy for arthritic conditions since he had suffered from the same ailment early in his life. Guest guest
It's good to hear your healing experience. Have you looked into urine therapy? There are a couple of good books (Your own Perfect Medicine by Martha Christy is one) and lots on the internet about it. One of the endless things it's been purported to cure is RA. I haven't tried it on a regular basis yet, but will soon. Guest guest
Sara, Essential Oil of Birch is what Tom is referring to. It is used quite extensively for RA, muscular pain, tendonitis, etc. It is analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and also a liver stimulant. Get yourself a bottle of Certified Organic Birch oil and mix 3 to 5 drops into 1 ounce of olive oil or a massage oil and massage your rheumatoid arthritic joints with it. You can also use Essential Oil of Wintergreen as well or mix Wintergreen Oil and Birch Oil with the massage oil. I would not suggest you use the Essential Oils 'neat' as it could be quite irritating to your skin. Guest guest
I didn't mean to imply that pain patients are looking to get high. My point was that oxycontin, in particular, has been known to lead people, who otherwise would never consider doing illegal drugs, to become heroin addicts. I have heard SEVERAL actual accounts of this very thing happening. And I say that without any judgement at all. That's how powerful oxycontin is. What I was trying to say was that there may be withdrawal symptoms that occur whenever anybody tries to stop taking a narcotic pain killer as strong as oxycontin... especially if the person's been taking it a while. Just because they're not taking it to get high doesn't mean they won't have withdrawal. Narcotics are physically addictive. I don't judge anybody for taking pain medication if they're in chronic debilitating pain. Mike seemed to be looking for a way out of that so I was trying to offer what I know about what he may experience in doing that. Sorry if I offended you. Guest guest
Sara, Kathe, and anyone else who might be interested, Okay, for what it is worth this is my take on it. We go through our lives eating all the wrong foods, i.e. those foods that are acid forming and hence create mucus inside of us. Now all these little teeny tiny bits of food that are broken down by the mechanico-chemical workings of our digestive system get shuffled off to the liver which attempts to do whatever it can to clean up and fix all the not so good food we eat. This all gets sent out to each and every cell of our bodies. Now, as our cells metabolize these little tiny bits of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats which we consume through meats, pastas, breads, etc. mucus is formed. Most of us think that mucus is quite slippery but actually it is very gluey. It plugs up our cells. How, by plugging up the ECM (extra cellular material) or the interstitial spaces that exist around each and every cell. These spaces are where the by products of metabolism get dumped into. These spaces are also where nutrients must pass in order to reach each and every cell in our bodies. All those minute capillaries bring these nutrients by and nutrients pass through the walls of the capillaries and cross this interstitial space then pass through the cell walls where they can be utilized by the cells for energy. On the flip side all the waste must pass back out through the cell walls and into the interstitial space. It must cross this and then pass through the walls of the lymphatic capillaries so that it can be gotten rid of. Now if we are taking in way too much acid creating foods and making much more mucus as a result then we are not going to be able to get rid of it all in an efficient manner. Hence the ECM will start to get plugged up with mucus. Then the cells get backed up. After years of this we have organs that start to go haywire and whole body systems begin to shut down. Then we have diabetes, cancers, RA, and all sorts of other diseases. Yes, there is a way to clean all of this out. It is called a mucusless diet. Now stop and think about this. It has taken us how many years to get our bodies into the shape they are in? If anyone seriously expects to get their body cleansed overnight, so to speak, then they need to think again. It is going to take years of cleansing and right eating to get all of that mucus cleaned out. I have no idea how long it will take but I would venture to guess in the realm of 5 to 10 years. Maybe more, maybe less. But not much less unless you have existed on nothing but an alkaline diet. Meats and pastas and any flour products are the worst at creating mucus as are excessive use of grains. Now the mucusless diet is called mucusless because you do not consume those foods which are known to be acid forming, hence creating mucus during metabolism. This keeps the mucus from building up and allows our bodies to naturally begin to get rid of this mucus again. It TAKES time. By making the body alkaline this helps to dissolve this mucus making it easier to be gotten rid of once and for all. Assuming of course we never go back to eating acid forming foods. It has taken 2 1/2 years of cleansing and eating a mucusless diet to get rid of the arthritis that was settling in the knuckle joints of my hands. I could barely use them some days and could hardly flex my fingers. Now I have no pain at any tiime. My knuckles are as free as they were 30 years ago. I am still working on the rest of me as I am determined to cure whatever ails me. I don't need an MD. I don't need drugs. I believe that diet and how I think can cure 90% or more of whatever ails me. The mind is a very potent tool. It can also work against us. It all depends on how you choose to think. Now this is my theory and it is slowly evolving through my own personal research. I know that there is much data that exists on this and much that has been poo-pooed. I write this for whoever wishes to study it and do their own research into it. I know in my heart that I am on the right track. I may not have all my facts straight yet, but I will. In time. It is an ongoing project that I have embarked upon in my own healing of myself. Don - sfatula (aka Sara) herbal remedies Thursday, September 12, 2002 3:09 PM [herbal remedies] Re: Need Advice? Hi Don,I've been on the mucusless diet since June this year (when I did the extensive research because I was determined not to live in that much pain any more). I've done the Total Cleanse mentioned elsewhere in this group, as well as several others that were custom-tailored for me from chiropractors and a Chinese doctor. The supplements I'm currently taking on a regular basis are: glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate, the Panther Piss recipe, 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar in a large glass of filtered water, vitamins A, C, and E; not to mention all the herbs I use to flavor my cooking (I'm a kitchen witch, so dinner is often quite likely to be good for what ails the body and soul). I've done several liver cleansings over the years since the onset of RA symptoms, but the most recent one I did was in June.Sara in Ohioherbal remedies, "Donald Eitner" <eitner.d@m...> wrote:> Hi Sara,> > How long have you been on this mucusless diet? Guest guest
Well said here, and in your previous post. People who have to put up with this type of pain must be heard and understood. There is one promising technology that might provide pain relief without drugs. This is electromedicine. We have a small amount of information on it in the files. But there have been many experiments done over the past 60 years, and these do look good. Sometimes i wish all the untreated chronic pain could be focused on the (unprintable expletive) officials of the FDA who have consistently been blocking research and implementation of these technologies. I know people who have gone to jail for manufacturing things that definitely are good and helpful devices. But the FDA has cracked anyway -- there are a few devices now available, simply because people have put so much pressure on the agency that they've been forced to allow some things. The main units you can find now are called TENS, which stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. These are about the size of a cigarette pack and can be worn discreetly. Certainly this will not be an answer for everyone. I am sure that there will be a few cases that are resistant to even this technology. But i think there will be more people who just need odd configurations of electricity to address their situations, and more research will bring out the ways to find and produce these. Take heart! Look around for workable devices. Unfortunately i've lost contact with many of the manufacturers and researchers i used to know, but they are out their, the ranks are increasing, and help is on the way. Web searches on the words " TENS " and " Rife technology " should bring some good results. And as you find good manufacturers, share the information with the rest of us. I especially need to know this, to help some of my friends. Guest guest
There are indications that blood type dietary phenomena may be a factor in many of these flare up episodes. I started studying this material only recently, and have already found it to give me a tremendous amount of control over flare ups of several minor conditions that i have suffered from. Most dramatic has been severe pain in my gums -- i can now completely control it through diet. In my case, this is difficult. As a Type A person, we have the ideal diet that's most unlike the typical American. But whenever the pain gets going, i simply switch over to " beneficial " foods, which for me include tofu, spinach, artichokes, and horseradish, and everything turns around almost immediately. So researching this area may bring some benefits. Check it out, and let us know how it works for you. Opiate pain releivers are actually closer to natural substances than many other products out there. Many physicians recognize that they are in some cases the only workable alternatives, until better solutions can be found. Maybe somebody here has the better solution.
