Guest guest
Hello Don, Thank for your response. Please see below for my comments: [Don] Okay, some thoughts. First ones BP does not go up without there being some reason. Change in diet, environment, job, stress levels, divorce, any number of things. There is always a cause yet for it to stay up suggests to me that your diet is playing an important factor. This is only my opinion. What exactly does your diet consist of? Do you eat meat? Do you consume pre-processed foods? Do you eat junk foods (MacDonalds, Taco Bell), I ask this as you mentioned you are doing quite a bit of driving. Do you consume a lot of fatty foods? Pastas? Do you use nutritional supplements? What is your life style like? Sedentary or active? Do you exercise regularly (long walks, hiking, stretching, jogging, etc.). [Anna] It is perhaps reasonable for you to assume my diet was a factor but at the time I was doing a course on nutrition so diet-wise I was much better informed than I ever was. I had M.E. and fibromyalgia is still quite a problem. Doing housework and light gardening is enough exercise for me, anything substantial set me back many days with fogging brain and back spasm. I love motoring so driving isn't a source of stress for me, it is just very tiring especially after a long day. Rather than going back to my medical history to explain why I got hp in the first place, I think It is enough to say that I had many changes of medications in the first 2/3 years because of side effects. Then I was given some sort of calcium antagonist (can't remember the name offhand), the doctor at the time did imply it being a last resort which I shouldn't be staying on it for long (she wouldn't explain why), but I did for over 18 months because they don't change the medicine if it is thought to be working. After a while I felt ill when the Sun is out even when I stayed indoor with the curtains drawn. The only thing I could relate the problem to was my medication so I went back to the doctors and they changed it back to what it was. No more problem being in the Sun but this was when the original dose no longer maintains my bp at 130/90 and it went up to 180/100. The doctor prescribed something else in addition, this something else pushed my bp to 190/120 so as I said, I was off for other cures. [Don] As for Echinacea, it is like anything else and should be used in moderation. I can find nothing that indicates it is harmful. Use it for 2-3 weeks and take a week off. Then back on again. Yes, good Echinacea will make your tongue numb and is nothing to worry about. This just means you have some good Echinacea tincture or herb. I have not heard of Echinecea being used for HBP. Yes, Dandelion tea can temporarally reduce ones BP but will not keep it down as your body will balance itself to the addition of the diruetic. Overall I would say that the cause of your HBP needs to be ferreted out and handled. Diet is usually a large cause for this. But not always as there are so many other factors that can figure into this dis-ease. Personally, I would consider doing Doc's total body cleanse that is in the files. This might do more good than anything else and certainly can't hurt. [Anna] I just come across a 'new' library book written by Dr Broda Barnes back in 1976 on Hypothyroidism (goodness know why it has taken 26 years to reach library shelves here in England). In it, he quoted "In hypothyroidism, blood pressure is often elevated to hypertensive levels of systolic and diastolic pressures, returning it to normal after treatment". There was little doubt in his mind the two diseases are linked. I remember having lower than normal temperature (96d) a couple of years back and thought nothing of it, but now I know this is a sign of hypothyroidism. So perhaps it is a matter of having this confirmed using the basal test since the laboratory thyroid test I had was apparently 'normal'. I did use a simple liver cleanse formula once which was quite good. When I get back next week, I will search the archive for the Doc's Total Body Cleanse formula so that I can try it. Thanks again for your thoughts. Kind regards, Anna
