Sometimes doctors tend to put their heads in the sand. Or maybe some other

low place. Actually they don't have many treatments for viral conditions, and

don't want to admit that.

Have you tried any herbs so far?

The best antiviral herbs in my experience have been Golden Seal, Lobelia, and

Echinacea. I've also seen great success with megadoses of Vitamin C. But i'd

want to know what you've tried first before making any recommendations.

I've tried echinacea (tincture) still taking it, and I just started

with the goldenseal last night. I've had some success using goldenseal

for my rabbit's snuffles, so had some on hand. I had no idea it was

so bitter - no wonder the poor rabbit hates it! I tend to like to use

my herbs in teas, but maybe I'm not getting a high enough dosage per

day that way. What dosage would be best for the goldenseal? I've

never tried Lobelia for anything.

Thank you !!

First, echinacea should be taken two days and then take a day off. Otherwise

it loses its effectiveness.

Golden Seal is, unfortunately, best taken orally as straight powder. The

horrible taste actually contributes to its effectiveness somehow, according to

tradition. You can make a tea from the roots and/or leaves, but it will still

be bitter, and not quite as effective. One caution -- never take more than a

gram in a day. Nobody's been killed by it, but the racing heart that an

overdose causes can be frightening.

Lobelia is something i'm not as experienced with either. But it is powerful

stuff. Generally a tea -- about 1/2 teaspoon per cup. It has an interesting

peppery taste. Don't drive after drinking it -- some people get a little

reaction from it.

Neem, oil of oregano, garlic come to mind first.

In all fairness, I must say that I asked my doc about WN today and he

explained that they can't test for it until someone actually develops

encephalitis. Plus, he doesn't think I would be sick for 5 weeks

because of it. He thinks it would have only given me flu-like symptoms

for a few days.

I go to a group of doctors, never know which one you'll see. I saw

the good one today (I think), and he didn't brush me off the way the

last one did. He ordered more blood tests. Symptoms are extreme

fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain, headaches. All symptoms are

constant, don't go away for a moment, except that the headache is

sometimes better or worse.

Ones best defense is to change ones diet from a predominantly acid one to a more alkaline one. Virii and bacteria just love an acid environment and don't fare so well in an alkaline environment.

Hi Julie,

Try the total body cleanse. Also try some Essential Oil of Oregano, Mountain Savory, or Rosemary CT cineole using no more than 2-3 drops 3 times per day. Just make sure that you use top quality oils. Make certain that they are certified organic.

[herbal remedies] Re: West Nile

Thanks. I think my diet is more alkaline than a lot of people. I've been pretty conscious of trying to have a whole-food diet for years, although I do cheat at times. Now the doc is talking auto-immune problems and testing for inflammation. herbal remedies, "Donald Eitner" <eitner.d@m...> wrote:> Ones best defense is to change ones diet from a predominantly acid one to a more alkaline one.
