Guest guest
After months of experimentig on myself with various herbal combinations to boost my energy levels, I think I finally found something that works. I have to accept the fact that, no matter what I do or how tierd I become, I'm only able to get three to four hours of sleep per night. Over about the last three months, I've done one to two week trials combining Maca and American Ginseng, Maca and Gotu Kola, Maca and Korean Ginseng, Gotu Kola and Korean Ginseng, Gotu Kola and American Ginseng, and American and Korean Ginseng. After taking Maca for so long, I honestly don't think it lives up to it's claims. After all, there have been no human studies done. Lately, I've discovered that not all Korean Ginseng is the same in the type of energy it provides. I had all but given up on this herb because the brand I had used was making me too anxious, nervous, and even more tierd in the long run. Out of curiosity, I decided to try a different brand (won't mention any names, since I'm not sure if we're allowed to) with an even higher percentage of ginsenosides (500 mg at 7%). For some reason, this really provides a good energy boost with out the side effects I've mentioned. Still experiencing some mid day and mid evening tierdness, I decided to also take Siberian Ginseng (250 mg at .8% elutherosides with 230 mg whole root powder). It's now been almost a week and I can't believe how much better I feel! Since the two herbs have different actions in how they increase energy, there seems to be no over stimulation. I can also swear that the Siberian Ginseng has an antidepressant effect. Anyway, just thought I'd share this with the group. (BTW, anyone with high blood pressure should not take either one of these herbs, as I understand.)

The fact that native Peruvians have used maca for several thousand years is a strong argument, in my opinion, for its effectiveness. Besides, my own dad has benefited a lot from maca. After he found a dosage that worked for him, he said he " was flying " , so much energy he had. Also, a woman on some discussion board tried maca after reading my reference to it, and she reported dramatic improvements in various areas, menopause related being some of them. It's possible that you didn't find a correct dosage FOR YOU or chose the wrong brand. Or didn't take it long enough. How much did you take a day and how long? > Out of curiosity, I decided to try a different brand (won't mention any names, since I'm not sure if > we're allowed to) with an even higher percentage of ginsenosides (500 mg at 7%). Guest guest
Roman, in fact I did try different brands of Maca, whole herb and standardized. I even took three times the recommended daily dosage on some days. Maca is really a food and not a medicine in the same respect as many other well known traditional herbs. All I'm saying is it did not help me. I too have read all the claims by various individuals as to how it works wonders. I also became skeptical when I understood there had only been animal studies, many with extreme dosages. Also, the stuff is quite expensive. One brand was $30 for 60 capsules. Anyway, my experience alone can't be any conclusion as to whether Maca really works or not. I was just very disappointed and can only wonder how many others have had the same experience and at great co$t.
Guest guest
It's a pity it didn't help you. As I said, it's helped my dad a lot. I find it helpful myself too. As far as its price is concerned, I find one brand (Whole World Botanicals) very cheap -- 175 grams of powder for $33 (cheaper if order 3 bottles). So how much exactly did you take? Taking " tree times the recommended daily dosage " may not be enough (according to Dr. Schulze, recommended dosages on product labels are often too small to help), especially only " on some days " . Sometimes herbs take time to produce noticeable effect. Roman gar_fla_62 wrote: > Roman, in fact I did try different brands of Maca, whole herb and standardized.
