Guest guest
Gotta be careful with turpentine. It is poisonous. Very small amounts accidentally ingested shouldn't hurt adults, but with kids it can be devastating. I'm not sure exactly what is required to combat turpentine poisoning, but i believe it involves administering ipecac syrup to induce vomiting. That's pretty heavy. You DO have ipecac syrup around, don't you? As for putting it in the eyes, that's definitely not recommended either. It can cause direct damage to the delicate tissues there. Wow i'm really glad you put this up to the list. At 07:28 AM 8/31/02 -0700, you wrote: > Doc, what do you think of using turpentine interally for Ascaris? Clean dirt was okay, but dirty dirt was to be avoided. Since we lived 1/4 mile from the nearest water source and all water had to be carried in buckets, this was an important distinctiion!! We certainly were not 'too' clean. Rather the opposite. I have not used turpentine since childhood, but am considering it. Doc, do you think it would penetrate into the eyeball to kill critters there? I have been using Lugol's full strength followed by some DMSO around the eye with very fine success. But after a week or so it must be repeated. Guest guest
Hey Michael, You were close, actually for emergency treatment of Turpentine poisoning one would give 2 to 4 ounces of castor oil and then remove the castor oil by either gastric lavage or emesis with tap water being careful to prevent aspiration. Then followed with catharsis with a saline catharsis. Of course, artificial respiration if the person has quit breathing. Guest guest
Dear PJ, DO NOT USE DMSO WITH TURPENTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You might not do anything destructive, but then you could go blind under certain circumstances. Remember, DMSO will carry anything with it, including herbs, nutrients, and destructive elements such as fuel oil or grease. I remember my mother using Turpentine on me when I was a young whippersnapper, but don't remember if there were long term negative effects or not. I do remember, I didn't feel any better after these treatments. My "instant" take on this would be not to use it, due to the potential toxicity of the Turpentine. It is possible you could get a beneficial result from this, but it makes me as nervous as all get out. Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease, so to speak, at least in the long run. One might not notice an immediate negative result, but my opinion (and I'm not speaking from experience here), is that you should hold off on the Turps. Use it with DMSO and you're playing with Napalm. A simple but potent Black Walnut Hull tincture applied to the area should handle this condition for you. Internally, you should be taking 1000 Mg of Vit C, 100 Mg of Niacin, 100 Mg of B-Complex, and about 8 to 12 cloves of Garlic a day. With that kind of aggressive approach, you should knock the little buggers off in about 3 days. There are other things you could do, but the above should handle it for you. If it doesn't contact me off list, and we'll get really aggressive. Love, Doc DMSO and Turpentine??? Boy, you know how to scare the hell outa me ;o) LOL Dr. Ian Shillington505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - Shirley Reed herbal remedies Saturday, August 31, 2002 8:28 AM [herbal remedies] turpentine and roundworms Doc, what do you think of using turpentine interally for Ascaris?
