I have not given heartworm to my dogs for over 6 years - I live in MN. I

also do not vaccinate and I feed a raw diet to my dogs. The terrain is

everything. I do give my dogs a herbal blend of wormwood/black walnut/tansy

everyday - and I increase the garlic in the summer months....I have never

had a concern about heartworm at all. I also work at a vet clinic (going on

5 years) and in all that time, have not seen one case of heartworm. But

what I have seen is alot of people coming in the clinic with dogs being

lethargic and not eating within 5-7 of giving the monthly heartworm pill.

tansy and could probably find some wormwood. My dog, a collie, was

treated for heartworms soon after we got him from the pound and he

was pretty bad off for a while. We are religious about the heartworm

meds, but would be more than willing to go herbal if it's tried and

true. He does seem kinda sluggish and uninterested after his pill

and it concerns me. Can you give this to cats? The vet is trying to

get me to give the cats heartworm meds too, and this could get real

expensive real quick! Thanks, Carlin

I don't know if we should continue this on list - is it OK, Suzi? I use the

top 1/3 of the plant for the tansy and the wormwood. Doc did post to the

list a while back how to tincture black walnut. I, unfortunately, don't

tincture that way....BUT, I am going to try this fall. I take the green

walnut and cut it in half and tincture it.....the tincture is black - but it

is the whole nut, not just the hull. I will see if I can find his post and

post it again. To my knowledge, cats do not need heartworm pills......we

only have heartworm for dogs......so, I can't help you there.

I feed my dogs raw meaty bones - atleast 75-80% of their diet consists of

that - chicken backs and wings - pork neck bones - tripe - the other 25%

consists of raw veggies, nuts, fruits - and organ meats - everything is

organic and free range fed. If you want more info to read about it - e-mail

me privately - there are some great websites I could send you to learn more

about it. A great book to look for is one called " Raw Meaty Bones - written

by Dr. Tom Lonsdale, DVM. The basis of the diet is to feed dogs a

bialogical appropriate diet....so, you feed them what they would eat in the

wild. My dogs have never looked better - I don't have vet bills anylonger.
