You can find commercially prepared elderberry extract,or you can make your own tasty syrup. Herbalist Brigitte Mars, a teacher atthe Rocky Mountain School of Botanical Studies, in Boulder, Colorado, does itthis way. Source: Herbs for Health September/October 19996 cups fresh elderberries, or dried elderberries that have been soaked inwater until plump1/3 cup honey1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger, or I teaspoon fresh, grated ginger1/4 teaspoon powdered cinnamonI tablespoon lime juice2 cups vodkaWash the elderberries, mash them, and juice them through a strainer. In aquart pan, mix the elderberry juice with the honey, ginger, and cinnamon.Cover and simmer for 35 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the lime juice andvodka. Pour into a bottle, cap, and store in the refrigerator for up to ayear. At the first sign of flu symptoms, take 4 tablespoons a day.
