Guest guest
As Mark Twain once said, " Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. Why, I've done it a dozen times just this year. " If quitting is proving to be extremely difficult, it is a good idea to switch to an all-tobacco brand such as Natural American Spirit. This is because most commercial cigarettes contain various chemicals, especially ammonia. These tend to create addictive patterns of their own. Somewhere on the web you can find a list of 600 different chemicals that are routinely added to cigarettes. Having studied chemistry, i know that many of these chemicals are extremely toxic. While quitting, substitutes for the rituals involved with cigarettes are important. This is a very individual thing, but it can mean changing work habits, break times, driving patterns -- whatever it takes. There are some herbs that help. One is licorice root -- chewing on a little bit of it helps reduce the craving, and also helps clear junk out of the lungs. Lobelia has been a big help for some people -- drinking a cup of tea at a time when you would have ordinarily lit up can do wonders. But this should be done only once a day -- some people find that Lobelia makes them a little bit " high " . I smoked my last cigarette in February. Occasionally, especially when things are very stressful (like most of the past month), i get a mild craving. That's when it's important to get busy with something that will distract me, such as a project or reading email. And it's important to recognize that the stress which we smoke to relieve, will always be around. We just have to find other ways to deal with it. Guest guest
Not really. Most people who hate the taste of licorice candy, love licorice root. The candy is a very cheap and inadequate imitation of the real flavor. There are two other things that taste like licorice, but after a while you can immediately tell the difference. They are star anise (good for the liver) and fennel (good for digestion, especially in children). One caution about licorice root. If you use it too often, it will aggravate gum disease.
