I take Kelp 6-8 tablets per day for my hair and nails. It makes my nails very hard. Get a good quality Kelp though. As I have bought Kelp from a major retailer and my nails started to break and split, this is when I realized I did not get a quality product. Further, I started using NADH it really helped my hair. It takes about 1-2 months before you notice the improvement. I noticed NADH made my hair grow and I quit losing as much hair.

Also I read where Inositol prevents hair loss. I have added this supplement to my diet as well.

Sincerely,

Lisa

Another thing Christy, I've noticed when I'm under stress I lose alot of hair. This is one of the reasons I've added various vitamin B's to my daily supplements.

Sincerely,

Lisa

Lisa,

I am new to this group the first message I got was the one you are responding to here, and reading your response is like I am talking except that I am not yet taking anything for the problems, (hypothyroidism, weak splitting brittle nails, major hair loss, fatigue, no real appetite, super dry skin with drier patches) would you explain what you are taking each of the supplements for, to help in my research on them. I am researching now because I think I might need them... lol and anyone give other advise on what you think??

Oh and since I am new I guess a little bit of info is in order, My name is Shelli, well that is what people call me anyway (Michelle is name actually) I am married to my one true love, we have two teenagers (major stress) who think they know everything like all teens, but are really trying my nerves these days. I live in a tiny town in the Texas Hill Country. I am 35 yo, just quit working, ummm that is all I can think of.

I am just starting my quest in the herbal arena so I probably won't be much help on the lists unless it is about something I have previously researched, and can still find it on my computer.

So thank everyone for letting me ramble and any help you may offer,

Shelli

Re: [herbal remedies] Hair, skin, and nails.

Don't quote me on this, but from what I remember from reading, it is a form of vitamin B. It is expensive. But I usually get mine from puritans pride when they run their 3 for the price of one sale. Then you can purchase it for about $10 a box. This is the best price I've found. When I first started NADH, I took it for fatigue. But I noticed my hair benefited from it. (hair loss minimal and increased hair growth) Prior, my hair was also falling out by the handfuls as well. But with kelp and NADH the hair loss was lessened tremendously. Lately, I have added a thyroid supplement to my diet as well, this seems to have helped some. But the main thing I have noticed regarding the thyroid supplement is that my blood pressure is now within "normal" range. i.e., 120/70 or somewhere thereabout. Before the thyroid, I had very low blood pressure and remained tired constantly. One sign of hypothyroidism is hair loss. I use a raw thyroid concentrate (porcine origin). You can get this from some of the herbal places on the net. With this supplement, I monitor my blood pressure and pulse to make sure I am not taking too much. (I make sure my pulse is not above 80 resting and my blood pressure does not go much above 120/70 if it does I decrease the dose)I know this is probably more info than you requested. But I hope it helpsLisa Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. Shelly,

I only stumbled on to many of the supplements I take by researching on the net. And I had every symptom you listed. But frankly my motivation came from my hair loss. I could live with the dry skin and brittle nails but not the excessive hair loss. I realize every one is different and may not respond as well to the same things. But here is a list of the supplements I have added to my diet.

1. Kelp: (a rich source of iodine for the thyroid) the bottle says to take one per day but I take 6-8 per day. Makes my nails hard as a rock. It is supposed to be good for the hair.

2. NADH: (promotes cellular energy and is an antioxidant) I take 1 5mg tablet per day on an empty stomach.

3. Raw thyroid tissue concentrate: (It contains T3 and T4) This supplement is highly individualized. I can't tell you how many of these to take. I know replacement dosage is 5 grains, so I don't go above that. The raw thyroid tissue concentrate I have is probably about 1/4 grain per tablet. I am taking 3 grains per day. I started slowly with this replacement. And monitored my bloodpressure and pulse constantly to make sure I am not taking too much. There is alot of research on the net about hypothyroidism and replacement.

5. Vitamin E: 800 IU per day

6. Choline: 500 mg per day

7. Inositol: 4800 mg per day

8. Vitamin B complex : one per day

9. CoQ10: 60 mg 3x per day: improves circulation

10. Vitamin B12: 1500 mcg, I take 2 per day

11. Vitamin B-6: 200 mg, I take 2 per day

All of these have contributed an additive effect.

Hope this helps.

Lisa
