Guest guest
Suzi, I have first hand experience in dealing with this. It's my mother. This started five years ago. At the time, she was widowed, 74 years old, and living alone in her house up in Jersey. This happened wihout any warning signs that I noticed anyway. I got a call from her neighbor, saying she was in the hospital. Turns out my mom was knocking at the neighbor's door late at night, saying there were people in her house. She claimed these people were just walking around or sitting on the sofa. Being that I live in Tampa, I had to fly up north, asap. By the time I arrived, she had been already put in the Camden County mental hospital! (I'm trying to make this as short as possible.) My mom seemed to return to normal and was released, only under the condition that she not live alone. I took leave from my job here to go back to N.J. and stay with her. Things were fine until that night she woke me up, pounding on my door. She was so frightened, asking me to " make the people get out of her house " . I then had no choice but to get her in the hospital. This is where she was literally experimented on with various prescription drugs, which (needless to say) made her worse! I was finally able to get the legal power to have a say in her medical treatment. I had all the medication stopped and she became much more in touch with reality. BTW, this whole nightmare is what started my interest in alternative medicine. I decided to have my mom take Ginko Biloba, however I'm sorry to say there's no cure for Alzheimer's. Do a web search for Ginko Biloba and you will see that it's believed to at least slow the progress of the disease. I think I was able to see this after my mom was on it for a while. Now, she is in the advanced stages and living in a near by nursing home here in Tampa. All I can say is that my mother had a MUCH more rapid decline in mental function during only the couple of months she was on prescription drugs, compared to the four years she has been off them! Sorry for the long reply, but this post really struck a chord.
Guest guest
Thanks! I have been researching and realize that no cure is available that we are aware of ... I read the Ginko and about Coenzyme10... just wondered if anyone had tried these or anything else... Thanks for your input... yes it is a hard disease to handle. Guest guest
Suzi, I took care of my grama who had dementia, parkinsons, strokes, heart disease, etc. in my home, so I understand completely. There is an excellent paperback book called " the 36 hour day " and it is a caretakers handbook, and was a lifesavor for me. I really recommend it. Take care, Renee -- In herbal remedies, " gar_fla_62 " <tampagar@w...> wrote: > Suzi, I have first hand experience in dealing with this. It's my mother. This started five years ago.
