Guest guest
I have tried darn near everything for my baby...essential oils, natural soaps, homeopathics...and just can't get rid of it. She's a year now. It's basically dry scalp, scales off and I comb it thru every couple days to loosen and shed that skin. It's not pussy or swollen or itchy for her at all. Doc now says that it's overactive oily pores and will subside at puberty. HELLO!! What about the next decade of her life!? Any suggestions whatsoever?? Guest guest
This may sound strange, but try massaging her scalp for about five minutes when you wash her hair and be sure to rinse the soap out completely. If you use a conditioner, which I'm guessing you're not since we're talking a little baby here, but in case you do, you need to make sure the conditioner doesn't actually touch her scalp, only her hair. Then rinse that out completely. A side benefit of washing hair this way, and it works for everyone, babies and adults alike, is that your scalp is stimulated, the pores are opened and your hair grows and grows and grows. Guest guest
This type of scalp problem can be a sign of liver stress. It would be a good idea to see a competent doctor (if you can find one in your area) and have a diagnostic workup done, with special attention to the liver. There are many diagnostic methods that can spot trouble before it becomes a disease, and doing simple herbal treatments or dietary modifications at this stage can prevent much more serious conditions later on. The diagnostic methods that are most likely to uncover the underlying problem include acupuncture, kinesiology, hair analysis, and cholesterol/lipid blood tests. That said, i think the advice given here about using a conditioner is worthwhile to reduce the symptoms. My hair is thinning a bit, and i'm going to try this method. Oh, and have you tried Pine Tar Shampoo? It leaves the hair kind of dull, but often does wonders for any kind of scalp condition. Guest guest
Sounds like cradle cap to me. In my family it is common and it coincides with allergies. Before bath time apply some olive oil with your fingers, being careful not to have it run into baby's eyes. Rub it gently into the scalp, the dry scaley part will take it in quickly. The idea is to gently loosen the scales without stripping the hair and scalp of moisture. I like to infuse the oil with lavender for this, as it is especially soothing and calms babies gently too. Make sure you test it for allergy on a tiny patch of skin underside of baby's forearm first for the infused oil. Leave the oil on her scalp for half and hour, then bath time! Gently wash her like you always do. It should leave her hair soft and shiny and scalp clearer. You should also change baby wash/shampoo (even if it says hyoallergenic on the bottle). Oh, and cradle cap does not stay with baby as long as puberty. Five or six years old at the latest. I would definitely watch for potential allergens with her though. You're doing a great job mommy :-) Janet Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. -Theodore Roosevelt - Michael Riversong herbal remedies Saturday, July 27, 2002 7:56 AM Re: [herbal remedies] dry scaly scalp fixes??
