Guest guest
I planted chamomile a month ago, flowers are now doing very nicely, but they have no white petals at all. Is this an unusual variety of chamomile or a different plant altogether? It SMELLS like chamomile, the foliage looks like chamomile but the flowers look like someone has removed all white petals, leaving just a yellow button of a head. I made a tea of the flowers, it was extremely bitter, I didn't like to drink it. Can someone tell me what I have? Michael

Guest guest
Sounds like Pineapple Weed (Matricaria matricarioides) to me as well. Has almost the same uses as regular Chamomile. Guest guest
Some of the therapeutic actions of chamomile are: diaphoretic, stomachic, tonic, antispasmodic, stumulant, carminative, nervine, emmenagogue, anthelmintic, anodyne, bitter aromatic, and in large doses emetic and cathartic. How to use it: make a tea out of the flowers to drink. Make an infusion to wash the skin or for the eyes. Can be infused into oils as well. Make a tincture with alcohol. Can be uses in salves and ointments. Wonderful herb. - dhyan narain herbal remedies Monday, July 22, 2002 1:23 PM Re: [herbal remedies] chamomile? what are the full range of uses for Chamomile .. and how to use it? Guest guest
Did you plant from known chamomile seeds? I have seen a lot of chamomile with yellow flowers, especially at high altitudes. Also it didn't always flower all the way until sometime in August at high altitudes (8800 - 10000 feet). I'm pretty sure that if you make a tea from flowers before they've bloomed, it's bitter and ineffective.
