Hey All! Having just watched my nephew and his mother go through a tough

pregnancy plus financial hell using your typical 'over the counter'

solutions to all the myriad discomforts and little illnesses that go with

babies, I was wondering what you guys could offer in the way of references.

I would like to know more about herbal remedies for pregnancy (getting

that way, roughing through it, giving birth, breastfeeding etc.) as well as

things for babies. (All I know there is that slippery elm powder prevents

diaper rash, and I'm glad I know it, because my nephew's mom spends a

fortune on creams and whatnot for that purpose.)

I did notice how every so often the list gets asked questions about " babies

and herbs " in general, so if you would all be so kind to offer your

resources, suggestions etc., I'll keep them around as a list that maybe the

next person to ask this question can make use of. (Answers to specific

problems still need to be handled specifically, of course.) But just for

me, I'd really appreciate whatever info you all can provide. I'd like to

get a few books on the subject, but there are so many...! And so many of

them look so SILLY! *lolol* Thanks again,

Hi Sara,

A good resource is Susun Weed. She has a website and has written a

few books on the subjects. Look her up in a search engine. Also Dr.

Christopher mentions several things in his School of Natural Healing

book.

best to you

An old Chinese traditions states that if you want to get pregnant, put a red

cloth between the mattresses. No, i don't have any idea why that would work

either.

In general, to get pregnant, you need to keep up good nutrition, and avoid

toxic chemicals such as those found in most antibacterial soaps and

cleaners. At this time in history, some people living in industrial zones

will never get pregnant -- that's an unfortunate fact of our age.

As for herbs during pregnancy, we do have some experience. Red Raspberry

leaf tea is great! We brew it up and keep it in the refrigerator.

Sometimes Nettle Leaf is added, for extra minerals.

Nutrition is very important. Many prenatal vitamin formulas are out there,

and some are pretty good. Only problem is, most of them are horse pills. I

have to crush them up and put them in applesauce so my wife can take them.

Calendula and/or aloe vera ointments are very good against diaper rash.

Verdi, our 2-yo, rarely has one lasting more than half a day.
