Guest guest
On the way home from shopping I passed a turtle on the road, it was flipped up on its back I figured it was probably hit by a car and flipped it. So I turned around and assumed it was dead but I'd move it just so it wouldn't be hit more. just as i went to pick it up it began flipping its legs around so i bought it home with me. The bottom shell is broked all the way across about the upper 1/3. and 1 leg is broken. It apears that the only bleeding is coming from where the shell itself broke, doesn't lok like anything internal hurt, and where the leg is broke and about half off. SSOOOO I got the shel back in place and used bandaids to tape it back in place for now and I semi braced the leg with a bandaid also. it kept pulling its leg in so I couldn't get it very well but at least it wont(hopefully) rip it off. It seemed like it was sort of in shock at first and I didn't want to cause to much stress after being hit and haveing many cars drive by then being pickd up and put IN a car and come to a home full of screaming preschoolers! lol which is why I did sort of a half @#$ job by puting it back together with bandaids :oP OK for the questions. basicly I'm wondering if there is anything you can think of to help it in healing. I did give it a dose of arnica to help incourage fast healing and tea tree oil on the bleeding areas to inhibit infections. Now about turtles 1 what are the shells made up of? are they more like out nails or more like our bones? 2 what do they eat? bugs?! what about plants?what would be helpfull in healing?! we have a damp basement with plenty of bugs so we are keping him down there so the kids wont bug him to much and scare him. that way it will be cool and have food around and stuff and we'll continue watchng closely. It seems to be doing real good within a few minutes after getting the shell back in place it flipped itself onto its belly and shortly after was walking around! I think he'll do good if we can just keep away infections and keep it fed and hydrated. any info would be real helpful! sites included! I'm about to do a search and se what I find but figured I throw out the question for all you helpful brains to see too! you can post or e-mail me at smech thanks in avance1 marcia BTW this is a painted turtle it is more or less full grown about 5inches across and 7 long give or take
Guest guest
The best remedy I can think of is to pack him in Total Healing Poultice Powder (formula in the files).
