Guest guest
First, Have you actually been diagnosed with carpel tunnel? If not, it may be that you are extra tight in the traps,-shoulder muscles, & the pecs,-chest muscles. When this happens the blood flow & nerve flow is cut way down. You may need a massage from a person that does neuromuscular work. Another cause may be that you have the vertebrae in the neck, out of alignment, that effects the shoulder, elbow, wrist, & fingers. I realize that this doesn't have to do with herbs, but the massage therapist or chiropractor may give you some advise on oils, & stretches to open up the blood & nerve pathways. Pat I need some ideas.. What should I take for Carpel Tunnel. I went to GNC today and they didnt really know. I know that a few years ago I took time release B-6 so thats what I bought today.Any Suggestions??
Guest guest
A really good thing for it, though it hurts like hell at first, is to simply lay on your stomach, bring your arms down along your sides with the palms facing down. Then lift one hip bringing the arm underneath you... then the other. The idea is to get both arms underneath the body with your palms facing the floor. Eventually you want to get the pinky fingers to touch and the elbows as close together as possible. Once you can do that start to lift one leg at a time, not too high just about 45 degrees. Once you can do that start lifting both legs. It's really helped me keep from getting full blown carpel tunnel. Again, it's not about herbs but it really does help! Be well. You should also consider taking it in conjunction with a B complex so as not to create deficiencies in your other B group vitamins, as the kidneys can’t differentiate between the different types of vitamin B. Guest guest
Right-o! I was told that I might have carpal tunnel on top of diagnosed tendonitis, but then another med. professional told me on the sly that it seemed to him like my stiff neck & shoulders from work could be bigger factors in my wrist pain than carpal tunnel. Thank goodness! I was almost to the point of giving up and getting surgery, but on a hunch I started doing Tai Chi...no more 'carpal tunnel'. (The tendonitis is still there, but much less acute.) Guest guest
This points out how there really is no ideal position for working at a computer. Experience and research have found that the only thing that works, is to keep changing your work position once in a while. I recently worked in a government office for a couple of days, and they had this really neat adjustable keyboard tray. That is the way to go. I did a lot of research on carpal tunnel syndrome a few years ago. Found out that in every case i interviewed, it was easy to discover one person in the victim's life, usually someone with authority, who was constantly belittling, degrading, and generally undercutting the victim. In a couple of cases that i was able to track, once the victim got that person out of her life, the symptoms gradually disappeared. Guest guest
Dear Valerie, I do a lot of typing, and I mean a bunch. It seems like a ream a day ;o) Once in a while my wrist and fingers start to bother me, and when I let it go too long can actually get painful. My solution (besides using my own Deep Tissue Repair Oil {recipe in the files}) is to chop wood. At first my wrist gets tired, and a little more sore, but then it strengthens up and all is fine until the next time I spend too much time at the ole 'puter. It's not an area I've done a lot of research in, and I know that not everyone can just go out and chop wood any old time like I can, but it would seem to me that there must be some form of exercise or group of exercises that would help this. Has anyone else checked into the exercise approach??? Love, Doc Ian "Doc" Shillington N.D.505-772-5889Dr.IanShillington - V. Guest guest
To a small degree, i have. Musicians get carpal tunnel in alarming numbers. The repetitive motions involved in playing any instrument can be a problem. The main exception would be trap drum sets, because with that you're really playing several instruments at once and engaging in a wide variety of motions. I used to play trap drums, and so knew about this, and about the fact that few people playing that instrument set would have carpal tunnel syndrome. In fact i can't think of anyone who developed it on that instrument. What i have done over the years, is to encourage my students to take up more than one instrument. This helps a lot, and so far none of my students have ever developed the problem far as i know. If someone is involved in music, or too much computer work, there are two main prescriptions against this problem. First, make sure that you engage in other types of motions when not working at your main task. Then, be sure to avoid people who constantly suppress you. Those are the two factors. A lot of my knowledge of this began with a paper presented by the late Dr. Burt Espy in 1994. He was a chiropractor in Colorado Springs who made the astounding discovery that whenever he treated the " heart meridian " of any patient with carpal tunnel syndrome, they improved. This refers to the Ch'i circulation system that is the basis of acupuncture -- Dr. Espy was very aware of how that system worked and would focus his treatments on it with good results. Due to some specialized religious training i was taking shortly after that, i found a link between the syndrome and suppression by conducting a number of interviews. The exact title and provider of the religious training will be given out privately, off list to anyone who is interested. On Tue, 2 Jul 2002 18:44:47 -0600 " Ian Shillington N.D. Guest guest
Absolutely Doc! When I can, chopping wood is my favorite too; but here in the city, sometimes I have to settle for doing (or trying to do) pull-ups, or even throwing off a few push-ups if that's all there's room for. Anything that really works your wrist, finger and shoulder muscles. I used to think the idea was ridiculous myself, but after a particularly bad bout (Sara's a mad typist too), I went up north to try and relax...and the pain kept getting worse and worse the less I used my hands. Someone offered me an axe--I've always liked wood-chopping--and I gave in and decided to try it. In ten minutes, the pain was gone! Take care, Sara (Beefcake!!) >Dear Valerie, > >I do a lot of typing, and I mean a bunch. Guest guest
Hello All, Has anyone ever tried the Chinese Steel Balls for strengthening the wrist? They are exactly as described, two steel spheres, the ones I have make music, and all you do is move them around in your hand, and your wrist gets a gentle workout. James Duke (The Green Pharmacy) believes that this exercise is the reason he has never had carpal tunnel syndrome, even though he types a lot. I also had a bout with cts when I first started using my computer, but now, even though I use my computer way more than I used to, my wrists never bother me, and I also believe it's because of the steel balls. Guest guest
Hi Persian, Thanks. You must be in the UK. Over here we don't split everything up, though I wish they did. Though I guess it doesn't really matter because if you still have to take everything inorder to obtain a certificate or diploma than one way works just as well as the next. Although, splitting it up allows you to take the courses as you can afford them. Our way you have to mortgage the farm in order to get the schooling. I have only done Anatomy and Physiology. No biochemistry with the herbal course, I am sad to say, there will be with the Aroma course though. As for any other herbal training I have done none other than my own natural curiosity about plants. I have always been interested in them since I can remember. Wondering about their uses for food and healing.
