Guest guest
Hi All, I have a thyroid enlargement and have been doing a lot of research on alternative therapies. All my hormone levels are normal, and have done biopsy twice. It was confirmed that it's a benign nodule. Doctor(s) have recommended monitoring every 6 months and then surgery once it becomes too large or aestheticly unpleasant. First, I don't want to wait that long and I don't like the surgery idea because once the nodule is taken out there is no going back, and I might become dependent on some hormone therapy. I heard that Sargassum Pallidum can be helpful in supplementing iodine, and some people recommended some other herbs/vegetables. My guy feeling is that, if an organ increases its size, there should be a way to revert back to its original size instead of removing it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to shrink thyroid enlargement? Thanks, K
Guest guest
I don't know anything about reducing the size of an enlarged thyroid, but my mom had her thyroid removed probably 40 years ago and she never had ANY problems. She took a pill everyday and that was that. I don't know if that is the answer for you, but up until she was in her 80s and developed Alzheimers and eventually fell and died, she had no physical problems at all. jb keaydin <keaydin wrote: Hi All, I have a thyroid enlargement and have been doing a lot of research on alternative therapies. Guest guest
Hi K, There is an excellent forum specially on thyroid problems at about.com. And on that forum is an interview with Dr Viana Muller, another good person bringing the botanical riches of South America to the world. The superfood MACA appears to be good for both hyper and hypo thyroid conditions. One of my mottos is: Don't tweak, nourish! That is especially true when we are dealing with the sensitive feedback loop of our hormonal systems. If I were you I would look into Maca and seaweed. Both are FOOD. Google around a bit till you find bulk Maca. It can be had for around $25 a pound. It should be organic and fair trade. Guest guest
Smile Greeting to All Alternative Answers Group Thyroid Glossary: Terms you need to know Calcitonin: hormone produced by the thyroid gland. Symptoms of Hypothyroidism Insufficient Thyroid Hormone causes bodily functions to slow down. The symptoms of Hypothyroidism are subtle and gradual and may be mistaken for Depression. Facial expressions become dull, the voice hoarse and the speech slow, eyelids droop and the eyes and face become puffy and swollen. Many people with Hypothyroidism gain weight, become constipated and are unable to tolerate cold. The hair becomes sparse, coarse, dry, scaly and thick. Many people develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which makes the hands tingle or hurt. The pulse may slow, the palms and soles appear slightly orange (carotenemia) and the side part of the eyebrows slowly falls out. Some people, especially older people may appear confused, forgetful, or demented - signs that can easily be mistaken for Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of dementia. Guest guest
Don't get surgery please!!! You need to have your thyroid levels tested. Here are the tests you'll need: TSH Free T3 Free T4 Antibodies Get copy of your lab results and post the results here with the ranges your lab goes by. _www.stopthethyroidmadness.com_ (http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com) is a good website for thyroid info and there is also a forum there. Guest guest
I was at a conference yesterday, at which Norman Shealy was a plenary speaker, and he said that research has indicated that when thyroid functioning is imbalanced, often taking iodine is enough to correct it. Guest guest
Judy - I don't have all the answers, but doesn't it seem odd that we would remove a part of our body that was put there by God when there are natural god-given herbs and such that would take care of the problem? I am glad that your mother lived to be in her 80's - you are so very lucky. Smiles.
