Guest guest
It's not very practical but common, yes. I've seen many women put on antidepressants to help cope with hormonal changes....though they don't do much for the hormones...considering I'm on them for the same reason. Guest guest
I have been on progesterone and premarin for about 5 yars and my doctor had a great concern about the dosage and time so they took me off and putine and me on Paroxetine & Amitriptylin which are both antidepressants. Is this common or practical?
Guest guest
" mspeppermntpatti " --- Goodness me - menopause is not a " mental disease " ! Your hormones are simply out of balance - that's what menopause is! Anti-depressants are so often used when not necessary and do more damage than good. Recent studies have shown that they can CAUSE horrific mental problems! The emotional ups and downs would benefit greatly by EFT or Zen AND keeping yourself busy so menopause is not the focus of your life. Black cohosh is wonderful for the hot flashes. St. John's Wort is a natural anti-depressant and works as well or better than the pharmaceutical anti-depressents. There are natural ways to help your hormone imbalance - much has been written about it on this board -- look back at the posts and see. I personally believe a good sense of humor, keeping in touch with the " yougins' " in your life (kids and grandkids)and a good mental attitude about becoming older works wonders! Get in touch with your inner child and enjoy! Guest guest
When I began to suffer the peri-menopausal changes about 5 years ago, I decided I would never go on HRT and began to investigate alternative, healthy ways to treat the symptoms. I discovered an over the counter remedy called Estroven which contains numerous herbs and vitamins that really do control ALL my symptoms. I added some calcium and magnesium for advance battle of the bone weakening which follows menopause and Flaxseed Oil and Fish Oil for heart and circulatory benefits. I did have to step up to the Extra Strength dose of Estroven but have also found that CVS and Walmart both have a less expensive generic variety that work equally as well. No more mood swings, minimal cramps, and no bloating. , " mspeppermntpatti " <mspeppermntpatti wrote: > > I have been on progesterone and premarin for about 5 yars and my > doctor had a great concern about the dosage and time so they took me > off and putine and me on Paroxetine & Amitriptylin which are both > antidepressants. Eli Lily has been trying to market someting called " Sarafem " for severe PMS. It is basically Prozac. So maybe we are seeing a trend here? Could you please give us a bit more of a picture? What else have you tried to gain balance? Please keep in mind that most of us are not doctors, just regular folks with an interest in health building and some life experience. Guest guest
Thanks Jan for your info. Sounds like the healthy way to go and cvs is right next door to my house. I just can't see taking antidrepressants for this medical condition. I am going to try the estroven, flaxseed oil & fish oil. I can only pray it works for me as it does for you or back to the drawing board. I have not started the medication prescribed as I thought my Dr had lost her mind. Guest guest
In the very beginning I tried several different herbs from the nutrution store such as co-ash, and a few more I don't even remember the names for the length of time it has been. Nothing worked even when they put me on the lowest dosage of the premarin it did not work. I told the doctor how I would be up every 30 minutes all night sweating so hot I would have to get in front of the swamp cooler and this was in the winter, then get back in the bed and would shiver something crazy and pull the cover over my head. At the time I had a male Dr who said I was to young to be pre menstrual and told him it ran in my family with the women as my mom was early and my 3 sisters. He saidit could not be so. I asked him if he would please test me so we could rule that out as I know I am not crazy and what I was experiencing was real as I had consulted with my sisters about it and so he did send me to the lab and 2 days later he called me to come into the office and said I had been correct in my diagnosis. It would feel just as somebody had turned on the oven full blast from my waist up and I would just become flushed so to the point I wouldalso have to get a towel to wipe my face even now that I have been on the pills for the 5 years I still get the flashes pretty often just not as bad. I think I am going to just stop taking all the stuff and see how I can handle it naturally now. To see if my horomones have changed in anyway before I even attemp the antidepressants. The last thing I need are those kind of mood swings.
Guest guest
Try researching bioidentical hormones. I can recommend two books - 1) Ageless by Suzanne Somers, and 2) Life Extension Revolution by Philip Lee Miller, M.D. You need to get your hormones in balance. Taking artificial hormones or antidepressants will not cure you. They are covering up the symptoms only. There is no magic pill to make you feel better. You will need to make many life style changes along with bioidentical hormones therapy. Guest guest
Try a cup of red raspberry leaf tea two to three times a day, and invest in a bottle of Clary Sage Oil...it's renown lies in balancing out female hormones, especially when headaches are involved... Guest guest
Have you heard about natural estrogens and progesterone hormones? I can recommend it and a book called Natural Hormone balance for women by Uzzi Reiss.
