chest pains for several years

Hi,

It definitely sounds like you are having angina, heart pain, especially

due to the fact that nitro spray helps. It sounds to me like you need

another angiogram, but if they have done 2 inside of 6 months, then

they might not do that again. Perhaps they would do another chemically

induced stress test. Did they ever tell you that it is angina? Some people

have to live with angina. Yours is considered stable angina as it comes

when you are doing something and goes away when you rest. I've had

unstable angina, which comes during sleep or just sitting.

I have a blocked artery, two stents from a cardiac

arrest in another area, and had triple bypass this year in another area.

The stents can plug up in some people quickly, but it sounds like they

don't believe that has happened with you. If there is disease in some

of the blood vessels, there usually will be occlusions forming in some

of the other ones. They may not tell you that's what is going on, as

they didn't tell me I had narrowing and 50% blockage in 3 other areas

at the time of my stent surgery. Insurance dictates they can only put

in stents or do bypass when the arteries are 60% -80% blocked.

I feel if it's worse lately, that you should still get in as soon as you

can get an appointment with your cardiologist or your regular MD.

Remember, if you need to take more than 2 nitro's or sprays 5 minutes

apart, that you should call 911.

I have been having chest pains for several years. I was first told

after an ultrasound that the " muscle " in my heart was relaxing, when

I would sit down to rest. I was given Atenolol. The chest pains

continued and I continued to tell my doctor and he continued to

pretty much ignore it. I moved 5 1/2 years ago to a new town and

mentioned it to my new doctor and he had me see a cardiologist, who

did the nuclear stress test. I ended up have stints put in my heart

on two occasions. The chest pains continued occasionally, but

recently they have gotten worse. Before, when I had one, if I sat

down, it went away almost immediately and would only return if I

didn't rest long enough. The cardiologist has done two heart caths

in the last 6 months and tells me my heart is beating fine, the

blood is flowing fine, but the chest pains have gotten 10 times

worse. I was sent to a gastroenterologist and he did a ERD/Bravo

and said I didn't have acid reflux. I had thought he would tell me

I was having spasms of the esophagus. He did say that I had a

hiatal hernia, but it wasn't bad enough to cause pain and that lots

of people had them. (a fact I already knew) Anyway, my regular

doctor, finally, I think to shut me up, did a cat scan and found

nothing. I continue to have the chest pains and no one seems to

know or care what is causing them. They hit right about where the

3rd button on a shirt would be. The pain is very sharp, and hot.

I liken it to the corner of a wooden block being pushed hard into

the chest and hot searing pain. If I use nitrolingual spray, or

levsin, under the tongue, it will fade in about two or three

minutes. Does ANYONE know what this is, or has anyone had this

problem?? I think I need to check into a psychiatric ward

sometimes. Is it all in my mind??? If so, I have a vivid

imagination!!!! I hope someone can help me. judy b.

Judy - you didn't mention anything about your blood pressure. Please

let us know that --- not just one, but how it generally runs. If the

nitro is working it would seem to be related to your blood pressure.

From knowing you (from another group) I know your heart is having to

work too hard -. I believe that your heart muscles are weak - they

are correct about that - (as it helps when you sit down and take

nitro --- and from us knowing each other) but your heart muscles

relaxing too much is not good either. When were your stents (date)?

This has been a problem for more than 5 1/2 years - correct? You are

also diabetic? Any problem with heart valves? Are you using Oxygen

(it would help!) - if not - why not? There is NOTHING wrong with your

head -- you are a warm, sensative, caring and intelligent individual

and very much cared about! You are stressed tho -- and who wouldn't

be!! Are you taking sleeping pills or any stress related medication -

be extremely careful as they will also relax your heart, Please post

your answers to the entire group for their help. Helen

I have a friend who suffered similar chest pains for a couple of

years and stress tests and such came back normal. He was told it

was actually an irritation of the lining of the chest cavity wall

and to drink plenty of water, one aspirin a day, and stop smoking.

Make sure you get enough water daily as more than just the heart

relies on water.

Hi Judy,

Have you thought about Kinesiology - this is the art & science of

muscle response testing to find out what is going wrong in a

person's body, mind, emotions or will. I truly believe your pain is

very real!!! I am sure you are not going mad - How frustrating for

you, I do know what it is like when nobody seems to believe you.

I have had a lot of Kinesiology and LOVE it it has truly changed my

life. You may need to search for a good one as there are 17

different ways to practise Kinesiology and unfortunately there are

some cowboys out there.

Hope this helps - sending Hugs your way..
