We don't drink dairy milk, however I cook with cheese and butter occasionally. We use Soy or Rice Milk in cooking, on cereal, etc. Any suggestions? Guest guest
go online and research other foods that are high in calcium. i believe broccoli is one, i think the potatoe is another. good luck, let me know how you make out. why do you think she may not be getting enough? a blood test ordered by her pediatrician would tell or a consult with an iridologist. be well --- C Mackbee <stratbz wrote: > All, > I have a quick question for such a well informed > group > > How can I tell if my 7 year old daughter is getting > enough calcium? Guest guest
Hi June, Here is my totally unscientific advice: Don't worry about it! There are many people on this planet who have no calcium related problems and who don't use dairy at all. Just make sure that your child eats a good varied whole foods diet that agrees with her, and that she gets enough exercise and sunshine. Calcium occurs in many other foods. Green leafy vegetables and sesame seeds and fish for instance, or old-fashioned soups made with bones. If your vegetables are organically grown they are more likely to be a good source of magnesium, which is essential for calcium uptake. Most calcium metabolism problems happen because the body uses the precious mineral to neutralize poisons, like the phosphoric acid that is used in soft drinks. Modern science has given us fascinating insights in the workings of the parts. I love it! But human beings have been eating and staying healthy for many millennia before we knew about vitamins and minerals etc. You might enjoy a visit to http://Westonaprice.org It puts a lot in perspective. Guest guest
You should get enough from the Soy + Rice Milk. Butter does not have much Calcium. Cheese is an excellent Source. Green Leafy Veggies; also Cabbage and Sesame Seeds have Calcium. Soy is a good source. Guest guest
Hi, Check out her fingernails. Do you see white spots? (not the moon) That may signal a mineral imbalance (calcium). Seaweeds are very high in calcium but you may have a hard time getting your 7 year old to eat them. Hiziki, arame, nori, wakame etc. You could make some of them in soups or mix with other vegies for the taste.
