Guest guest
Merry Meet one and all...have a quick question for 'ya all...I'm a studying herbalist/nutritionist from Clayton College...I'm only in the beginning stages so please bare with me here...I drink a lot of tea...Lipton type of hot tea...some say this is great as it is a great antioxident...while others say tea (black, green, white...any with caffine) is extremely bad for you and you shouldn't drink it all...I don't drink all that much...about 2 cups a day...with some on-going health issues that I have, is this such a good idea? I do use it as a pick-me-up every morning...bad? Does anyone have any comments about this or perhaps a more healthier alternative? I have very low iron and have possible CFS....any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks in advance! Try, if you can, to buy organic teas. And I am certain that green teas are healthier than black teas. Black teas are good too, but green teas have more of the polynenols (sps?) in them. Those are the antioxiants. If you can't get organic teas then try reputable brands like: People's Republic of Tea or any of the brands sold at Whole Foods Markets or other natural/health stores. Guest guest
I have always heard that green tea is full of antioxidants and thus good for you. If you have an issue with caffeine that is a different issue, but is that the case? Guest guest
congratulations. i wish you well with your studies. i think you should investigate CFS to learn what should be avoided. after your investigation, look up the herbs that are appropriate, and use the appropriate ones as teas. i think if you do all things in moderation, you might be okay. as far as an afternoon pick me up, maybe you should eat a piece of fruit, go for a walk, take a power nap, or splash some H2O. thanx for letting me share. Blessings and Peace to you. Guest guest
I love tea as well, but opt for the caffeine free type. I do, however, use something as a " pick-me-up " that doesn't send me crashing later. I take Emergen-C which is dissolved in water, every morning. It contains tons of minerals and B vitamins as well. Try a bit of exercise in the morning to get you going also! Try looking into caffeine free herb teas known for energizing. Ginkgo Biloba herb tea for mental clarity and alertness and Ginseng herb tea for energy. If you don't care for the taste of herb teas as much as green/black, try mixing them with green or black decaf! ~Connie Eire Flamekeeper <eireflamekeeper wrote: Merry Meet one and all...have a quick question for 'ya all...I'm a studying herbalist/nutritionist from Clayton College...I'm only in the beginning stages so please bare with me here...I drink a lot of tea...Lipton type of hot tea...some say this is great as it is a great antioxident...while others say tea (black, green, white...any with caffine) is extremely bad for you and you shouldn't drink it all...I don't drink all that much...about 2 cups a day...with some on-going health issues that I have, is this such a good idea? Guest guest
2 cups of tea a day is a very sensible amount of tea to drink. It is an ideal pick-me-up. Tea has super therapeutic qualities. The catechins and flavnoids in tea provide great health benefits. They say upto 5 a day of the cup that cheers is good for health Vivek --- Eire Flamekeeper <eireflamekeeper wrote: > Merry Meet one and all...have a quick question for > 'ya all...I'm a studying > herbalist/nutritionist from Clayton College...I'm > only in the beginning > stages so please bare with me here...I drink a lot > of tea...Lipton type of > hot tea...some say this is great as it is a great > antioxident...while others > say tea (black, green, white...any with caffine) is > extremely bad for you > and you shouldn't drink it all...I don't drink all > that much...about 2 cups > a day...with some on-going health issues that I > have, is this such a good > idea? Guest guest
No...I do not have any problems with caffine at all and tea is the only caffinated beverage that I drink..in most of my text books, it's stating that to keep good health, it is best to abstain from ALL caffinated beverages, including tea, which is why I got a bit confused... Guest guest
Hmmm, interesting I hadn't heard that. I know some South Indian Yogis who drink alot of coffee and I know Zen Buddhist monks have a ritual they do with green tea. Guest guest
Quite frankly, I believe the anti-caffeine stance of so many health teachers is a bit overdone. Two cups a day of a beverage you enjoy strikes me as very moderate. In fact, the fear might be worse for you than the bit of caffeine. However, some people's bodies just do better with no caffeine at all. If you are one of those there are plenty of delicious alternatives. Feel free to ask me off list for a sample of Rainforest Treasure Tea. It has a gentle uplift with not a smidgeon of caffeine. Instead the energy comes from Jatoba, a famous fungus fighter. Ien in the Kootenays, who likes her Earl Grey. ************************** Stop. Breathe. Guest guest
Hey Ien!! Hi. It certainly depends on the person. That is why listening to YOUR body is the best medicine. My mother was raised on coffee as back then they didn't think it harmful at all. By the time she was a teenager she had a " racing heart " as they called it, and all the doctors said she'd have to be careful all her life or she'd have a heart attack. No matter what she did if she extended herself, her heart beat would speed up, she'd get short winded, slightly dizzy and have to sit down. I remember all my childhood these types of episodes. Finally, when I was a teenager, a doctor asked her do you drink coffee? " She said of course. He said " well, it could be the caffeine " . She couldn't give up her beloved coffee so she switched to decaffinated (which is not so good for you because of the decaffinating process itself, but that's another story :-) and low and behold--her " racing heart " stopped racing. Her breathing even during exercise or stress became normal and she no longer suffered from over-excitement!! Yet, if she drank so much as one cup of regular coffee the symptoms all came back. So, if you intake caffeine products which can be coffee, tea, chocolate, etc, monitor your feelings and body afterwards. Then go for a while without it--yeah, yeah--if you are addicted to caffeine THAT will be hard to do, lol--and then see how your body feels. That's the only way you will know for sure if caffeine bothers you or not. samala Renee ---- Quite frankly, I believe the anti-caffeine stance of so many health teachers is a bit overdone.
