I need other ways of dealing with this pain that I have - I am also now disabled and cannot work due to the pain and I am 40 yrs old and have been told by a occupational medical dr. that I have to move around some otherwise i can end up in a wheelchair at 40 but when I walk a block I hurt so bad. Guest guest
I would seek out a good Yoga teacher, not one in the Iyengar lineage as they teach Yoga meant for young, flexible people but one who emphasizes the breath, and can modify the poses for anyone. I am a Yoga teacher in the Krisnamacharya lineage, we are taught to modify the practice for all levels, even people bedridden with strokes have been healed with this. I may be able to reccommend a teacher if you let me know where you are. Feel free to email me privately. Good luck to you! Guest guest
Hi, I would recommend that you buy the book " From Fatigued To Fantastic " by Dr. Jacob Teitelbum and then do exactly what it says. It was the only program that really helped me overcome chronic fatigue syndrome and the associated pain. I also recommend that you go online and find the EFT website. EFT is the emotional freedom therapy technique developed by Gary Craig and is extremely helpful in overcoming pain. You can download the manual for free and purchase the videos later if you like. There is NO disease that the body cannot heal if we can just find the right approach to help it and tap into all the wonders and mysteries that are built into our immune and healing systems. Stay positive and have faith in your ability to overcome this disease. Guest guest
I'm so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain! Certainly you've tried massage?! Massage affects all the systems of the body and when received regularly can really improve pain, mood, and give you more energy. ~Connie Mystical <mysticalpanthr wrote: Hi there I am Mystical Panthr and I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue,Insominia, Myofasical Pain Syndrome and Multiple chemical sensitivities. Guest guest
All I can offer is what I found helped me, but first I want to offer that when you are in this type of pain all the time, your mind does not function properly. For me is was if I was living in a time warp of some sort. I would know that I was getting worse but now I realize that there is a threshold that you pass where you can no longer be trusted to know how sick you really are. So when the doctor prescribes PRN and you hate to pop pills, you go over this threshold and until someone who loves you tells you that you need to do something, you just keep spirally downward. What worked best for me were self hypnosis, self massage with pressure points and hot baths. The hot baths is the easiest but really important. When you are in constant pain like this the muscles are always contracting and swelling and this impedes blood flow. Hot baths or access to a hot tub if you have it helps the blood vessels to expand and increases blood flow. If your muscles are ever to return to a healthy state which they can and will, you need for your body to be able to nourish them, so blood flow is important. The other issue for me was to stop the pain even is only for a few minutes. Accupressure is very effective as it serves as a switch that can turn off the electrical impulses to your mind and for a moment, that part of your body is not screaming that it is hurt. Everything below the pressure point has a momentary experience of relaxation. Combine the acupressure with your hot bath can be very effective. This is not a quick fix but you did not get into this state in a short period of time either. The first step is just to stop its progression. If you do that then your body will start allowing healing to happen. Self Hypnosis that begins with breathing techniques. Hypnosis has been used to block pain for all types of reasons including childbirth and surgery. Once again, if you can maintain 15 minutes of self hypnosis, you will have tripped the switch that is continually telling you that your body is in pain. Breathing techniques will bring relaxation and increases the oxygen in the blood. For me this is the most powerful tool we have. My mother had advanced emphysema and was 76 years old when she agreed to be put on a ventilator as a treatment. She did not want to stay on it and she was specific about that. After about 6 weeks and no progress, the doctors said she would have to stay on it tell she died. We had to fight but we knew she would not want that and finally they agreed and they " pulled the plug. " She was a feisty little thing and came through just fine. We took her home but she signed a living will. She was in serious trouble a few months later and we took her back to the hospital. The doctor just said that we had agreed not to use any " life support " so there was nothing he would do. She would most likely die within a few hours and left the room. I pulled the curtain close and began a soft meditation and mother " went under " very quickly. I gave her messages that would enable her to relax and develop a steady natural breathing pattern. The nurse walked in and I think she thought I had lost my mind. It worked, we brought her home and I taught her how to do self hypnosis and for her to instruct herself to slow her breathing and develop a natural rhythm. She stuck around for three more years and was only bed ridden for one week. Since you have some chemical sensitivity, I am not sure if my final pain relief method will work, but chocolate is a powerful but temporary pain reliever. Different chocolate works best for different people, so you will have to experiment to see what works for you. Mine is Symphony Bars and Kroger Chocolate baking chunks. Can't explain it because dark chocolate is thought to be best but not for me. One last thought, don't forget to stretch. Open up the body so that you are not all curled in a ball. Use a favorite slow song and just move slowly and stretch and keep the mind focused on the music. Guest guest
Hi Mystical Panthr, I also have Fibromyalgia. I'm curious are you also hypothyroid? I am and have noticed that when my TSH levels are up I have more muscle pain. Several things have been helpful to me are the sleep and pain management tapes at: http://www.hemi-sync.com/store/home.php You can often find the CDs on eBay Meditation is also beneficial as well as massage. Your doctor is correct you need to try to move as much as possible. What about water exercises or swimming? Gentle yoga? Make it a point to walk around the house several times a day. Start small and gradually work up. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Guest guest
It sounds like you are having a lot of the same issues that a dear friend of mine has dealt with for a long time. She was once in so much constant pain that she walked with a cane and rarely was able to join the rest of us girls on long days out if there was a lot of walking involved. About 3 years ago, my friend decided to try an experiment of sorts. She did a full body cleanse, then switched to an almost totally raw/macrobiotic diet. After several months, she was able to put that cane away and put most of the medications she was taking in the back of the medicine cabinet. The change in her is amazing. She still has regular massage sessions with someone who specializes in myofacial release, and the raw foods diet is her way of life. She does change things up every now and then with a little broiled or grilled chicken, and she sometimes cooks her veggies. It takes a lot of work to stick to healthy foods, but to be virtually pain free is well worth it for her.

Guest guest
No, I do mean Iyengar, I am aware he was trained by Krishnamacharya as a young man, left him as his teacher, had essentially no teacher, no correspondence with Krishnamacharya in a student sense which goes against the teachings of Yoga. He then started teaching what he had learned, was being taught as a young man which was Yoga for young, flexible people, suitable for him at the time but not as he or anyone ages and grows in their practice. Yoga practice is meant to change from body centered to breath to mind and then to self. Iyengar never stayed with his teacher long enough to learn these things and Krishnamacharya learned how to modify for all until he died at 100 in 1989. The only teacher to stay with him is his son TKV Desikachar, who I have met several times, in the US and India, and have taken several workshops with his son, Kausthub, who I know and knows me and is my teacher's teacher. Yes, you are also right about Ashtanga, Pattabhi Jois, the founder follows the same story line as Iyengar pretty much. Bevacqui <etain369 wrote: Perhaps you mean Ashtanga, not Iyenger. Guest guest
---hi i am moved by your plight and will share what i have on the information side OVERVIEW OF THERAPEUTIC REGIME The treatments recommended in the Cayce readings on fibromyalgia are mainly directed toward improving the digestive, circulatory, nervous, and eliminating systems. Diet, moderate exercise, a mild form of energy medicine (Radial Appliance), spinal manipulations and general massage, colon irrigation, and castor oil packs are therapies intended to improve these vital systemic functions. As was typical of Cayce's holistic approach, the mental and spiritual aspects of therapy were emphasized. Here are the basic therapies recommended for the treatment of fibromyalgia based on the Cayce information on this disorder: 1. 1. INTERNAL CLEANSING: Hydrotherapy includes drinking six to eight glasses of pure water daily, colonic irrigations (preferably) or enemas, and a cleansing diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. 2. Castor oil packs across the abdomen are recommended to improve eliminations through the liver and colon. Mild laxatives may be helpful if constipation is a problem. Fume baths assist with elimination of toxins through the skin. 3. MANUAL THERAPY (SPINAL MANIPULATION AND MASSAGE): Osteopathic or chiropractic treatment is recommended to relieve any pressures that may be hindering circulation and decreasing eliminations. Gentle massage is suggested to relax the body and improve circulation and eliminations. 4. DIET: The Basic Cayce Diet is intended to improve assimilation and elimination. The diet focuses heavily on keeping a proper alkaline/acid balance while avoiding foods which produce toxicity and drain the system. Essentially, the diet consists mainly of fruits and vegetables while avoiding fried foods and refined carbohydrates ( " junk food " ). Certain food combinations are emphasized. 5. ENERGY MEDICINE: In addition to the above therapies which will tend to improve circulation, the Radial Appliance is recommended to further assist in increasing relaxation and nervous system coordination. Edgar Cayce said that this appliance would be helpful for anyone having problems with disturbed sleep and fatigue. 6. MEDICINE: A ginseng tonic is recommended to improve digestion and eliminations. Small dosages of beef juice are recommended for persons who experience significant fatigue and lack of vitality. 7. MODERATE EXERCISE: Walking or other moderate exercise is recommended. Be outdoors in the open as much as possible. 8. ATTITUDES AND EMOTIONS: The mental and emotional aspects of healing are frequently discussed in the Cayce readings. Particularly, an attitude of desiring and expecting to be healed is important. A positive mental and emotional attitude and can be created and maintained by focusing on a high purpose (ideal) for being healed. *FIBROMYALGIA LINKED TO IBS* The Edgar Cayce readings consistently maintain that problems in the bowel can produce systemic conditions. A recent medical study echoes this theme. Researchers at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles,California may have discovered a simple test that links fibromyalgia (acondition manifesting as muscle pain) with irritable bowel syndrome (orIBS, a condition involving abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea). The lactulose breath test (LBT) is used to assess for the presence of microbes in the bowel in cases of IBS. Some previous studies have found that nearly one-third of fibromyalgia patients also have IBS. The study, published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (April2004), explored the hypothesis that LBT would be abnormal in both IBS and fibromyalgia patients. The researchers recruited 42 fibromyalgia patients, 111 IBS patients, and 15 healthy control subjects who were given the LBT. All the patients with fibromyalgia exhibited abnormal LBT results compared to 84 percent in the IBS group and 20 percent in the control group. Furthermore, the amount of hydrogen gas detected in the LBT correlated with the level of pain in the fibromyalgia patients. i would of course add spiritual healing to this regime phil In , " Mystical " <mysticalpanthr wrote: > > Hi there I am Mystical Panthr and I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic > Fatigue,Insominia, Myofasical Pain Syndrome and Multiple chemical > sensitivities. Guest guest
Hello! Both of these dis-eases are a direct cause of over stimulation. Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Tooooooo much stress. And not near enough sleeping. You would be surprised at what lack of sleep will do to your body, then add on top of that , years of stress overload. Most fibro and chronic f syndrome patients are women, that are in constant over drive mode. Standing constantly at attention for the next thing in life to blow you from one side of your life to the other. On over load from taking it all on their selves, doing too much for other people who are perfectly able to do for themselves. It means that yes, you have to learn to say no to some of your obligations, so called obligations, your poepl that dont really need your help need to grow up and take some responsibility for their own life. And make real time outs for your self. Real time every week. Everyday. yes you are allowed. So that you can take care of you.. Sometimes as Moms and Dads we foster that neediness in our chidren to fill some hole in our own life. Then the spoiled human being expects your undivided attention all the time. Then add several of these humans making demands on you. And of course, you want to please everyone. ANd then you end up on overload, and women and men endure this heavy load or burden for years. Then add to that the reall things in life, that you really need to be on high alert for, divorce, money problems, child illness, teenager problems, problems at work, the laundry needs to be done the dishes, I have to pick up so and so, I still need to write that paper, and lovey auntie wants me over every day to read to her and....You get what Im saying. We think we are invincible until we hear of someones death close to our own age... How could that be? that is so scary! But we are living the same kind of life if you have these dis-eases in your life. Its a much over used cliche these days but very true. We are human beings not human doings. Anything else is pure ego driven. Making your ego happy or someone elses near you, push, push, pushing you all the time to do more, or you have the idea, what you are doing is never enough. Like the bald lady said years ago...STOP the madness! You and only you can do this. And do it for yourself. Think of when you are outside, or anywhere and you are not properly dressed for the cold and your body starts to get the shakes, that tense- ness. Now you cant get out of the cold for whatever reason, watching your child play football or whatever. When you finally come inside, your bones and muscles ache really bad sometimes, depending on how long you had to be in the cold. That tense, hurting kind of feeling takes a day or 2 sometimes to go away fully and definetly a hot bath will help. That is what your body is like on fibro and CFS. You have been stressed and not sleeping not eating right inorder to be at the ready for the next thing to hit you. You didnt slow down to eat a proper meal, exercise regulary and vigorously, you didnt take time to meditate or do yoga or something to free your mind and truly calm you and get away from the overstimulating day or people constantly making demands of you! Some days you get everything done, other days nothing at all. ANd thats ok! Really ok! All the time, you are only one person and your energy reaches and touches more than you know just by your thoughts alone! No you dont have to build Rome in one day. No you are not God and need to get it done by the end of the week. But your time and energy are really the most valuable things you own. And you need to be more wise with your energy and time. You need to show your children it is ok to do something nice for yourself, its ok to recharge your batteries on a regular basis. We want our children to see us doing this! If not, then we've just raised our children to lead the same, exact same stressed to death lives that we lead. And nope, I couldnt bare to watch my children stress theirselves out and be on overload the way Ive allowed myself to get sometimes. My do warned me to slow down or I would soon be on the list as having one of these 2 dis-eases. I already have some of the stress that goes with the fibro clicking in my jaw, locking up. But regular exercise, I take my 2 labs to the park and we walk trails part run for an hour in the woods, do 30-100 sit ups and add some hand weights that are sitting here by me while Im at the computer. I use them as I read and it keeps away the carpal sydrome too. Eat real whole grains, nothing out of a box. Bag ok. This was sort of a rule of thumb we went by at the health food store. If it comes in a bag ok, no box. Doesnt always work, but most of the time its true. sooo that means fruit and veggies. Get away from processed foods as much as possible, thats extra stress to digest, extra energy that you could be using somewhere else in your life. And about the blowing from one side of life to the other...learn to go with the flows of life. Remember merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream. Row row your boat gently down the stream. Make some plans for you in your life, so you arent constantly left to the whims and emotions of others. That means having your own morals and ethics and values. You gotta stand for something or your gonna fall for everything!!! Literally! Life WILL push and pull you from one stand point to the other, if you are constantly changing your viewpoint to make others happy. Then what are yours? Its your life, now get in the front seat and quit letting others bully you into doing their bidding day and night. Get your power and energy back for you. It doesnt mean we are selfish or dont care. Others will try to place these labels on you as you try to take some meaning back for yourself. Honoring yourself IS honoring others, no matter what it may seem like at the time. They will bully and harass you, you've grown accustomed to this behavior, on your knees for others. Stop it. Stand up. Would you want to think you are hurting others by doing for them all the time? You are. You are interfering with their karma, what their energy is to work out too this life time. ANd you are here to work on certain things too! And when you are doing thngs that you dont feel like doing, because you feel obligated or you have to or they guilt you into it. STOP that isnt the reason for doing anything for anybody! If fact its a direct sign to to you to stop it already. If your energy feels heavy, too serious, that is a sign to stop. That is a sign that your energy is being used against you so to speak, draining you leaving you. You should feel light and airy, merrily merrily. Im doing it because I want to. And it means your overbearing, mother, father, spouse or child, neighbor, whomever is responsible for their life, not you. And to those that have been using you as a crutch all these years, making you stand at constant attention to be ready for their needs will have to accept that respsonsibility theirselves. Period! You are in pain mentally and physically. You see, that is why these dis-eases are so hard to diagnose. Usually the patient has no clue, consciously, that they have put theirselves in the middle of all of such a situation, but its very true. All you know is that you ache, you felt the stress overload some years ago, but pushed it all down inside, away from where you would be faced with dealing with it and them. Saying no. Its harder than you think for alot of people! And chances are, your own parents did not teach you, the value of you and that it was alright to rest your mind and your body. Or even how to do it for that matter. So you must do this for yourself and your children and actually generations to come. This kind of over worrying over drive stress is inherited. Someone taught you to do this by example! And one more thing. stop using your sexuality to get your way too! I dont think this one needs no explaining, men and women you know who you are. Stop the stress! No one but you can do it. I hope this helps! Nope, its not a quick fix! It took you years to get to feeling this bad. It will take some time to change some old ways of thinking and looking at your life through different eyes! Guest guest
Mystical Panthr, I have fibromyalgia along with other things. I am constantly being told that I need to walk. I also can not go a block without such intense pain that I cry. I have found that if I walk, in my house, I can sit down when the pain strikes and after a few minutes, when it subsides, I get up and walk around again... This has been the only way I can do it, but at least I am doing it, if only a few minutes at a time. Over time I have learned what works and what doesn't... frustrating... yes, but that's the way it works for me, so I just had to adjust my attitude and do it the way it works... for me! I wish you well, and if you'd like to post to me off the newsgroup, my e-mail is: ccheney Candy Quote: Never get in a battle of wits without ammunition. --American Proverb - Hi there I am Mystical Panthr and I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue,Insominia, Myofasical Pain Syndrome and Multiple chemical sensitivities. Guest guest
Don't know if this was meant for me but I have access to people who know him very closely and what i have written is straight from a true experience of him and his teaching life. He has taken credit for things not attributable to him, such as props, which have been used for hundreds if not thousands of years, which were shown to Krishnamacharya when he lived in a cave with his Guru. I saw him on Charlie Rose and when he said he wrote a book on Pranayama it was like he was saying he invented it, seemed a bit arrogant to me, and I had a hard time understanding anything he said. My teachers speak plainly and practically and with a great deal of profundity, things I can use which they have as their dharma, to help others, not themselves. Iyengar spoke around the subject, never got to it as far as I could discern. He certainly looks the part, though, i will give him that! I would offer to you to read the Book " Health, Healing and Beyond " a biography of Krishnamacharya's life or " Yoga of the Yogi " written by his grandson, Kausthub Desikachar which sheds a great deal of light on the man and his life, and the legacy he has left behind. Iyengar did himself a great disservice by leaving such an incredible teacher. Guest guest
I know there have been some suggestions on dealing with the fibro, and I know how difficult this can be. If you've already tried lots of natural things like internal cleanses, sunshine, digestive enzymes, the water cure, etc, and they haven't helped, you may be interested in this link. I have bought some of Sam Biser's material before, but this is unlike anything he's ever done before. I am so fortunate not to have anything wrong with me or my family, but I'm thinking of getting this just to see what he says. I do know some people who have tried everything and nothing has seemed to help, and this is what his book is all about. http://www.sambiser.com/course/course.main.html good luck samala Renee ---- Hi there I am Mystical Panthr and I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue,Insominia, Myofasical Pain Syndrome and Multiple chemical sensitivities. Guest guest
If you haven't, already, please visit a naturopath. I work with one who was schooled by Trinity College, and she is extremely knowledgeable about this imbalance. The school has their graduates listed by state on their web site. It's http://www.trinityschool.org. Good luck, honey. One of my friends has exactly the same thing you do, but she's not quite ready to go alternative, yet. It's hard to see somebody you care about go through something you can't even begin to understand. Bless you and yours. , " Mystical " <mysticalpanthr wrote: > > Hi there I am Mystical Panthr and I have Fibromyalgia, Chronic > Fatigue,Insominia, Myofasical Pain Syndrome and Multiple chemical > sensitivities.
