Guest guest
TAROT JOURNAL WRITING - MY EXPERIENCE Ana Santos - C.T.M. As many child and adolescents, I wrote a journal. In adulthood I go on writing it at least, once in a while. I started to use Tart when I was 17 years old. But I never thought of journal writing and tarot together until I began to work on my certification and reading for Free Tarot Network. My mentor once told me about Mary G. Greer and I immediately bought her books. I surrender to " Tarot for yourself " . This has been my manual. The more I use it, the more I love that book and I find it enlightening. In this book I learned and acquire the habit of putting Tarot and journal writing together. As time goes by I found this is a very important activity to develop some skills useful in tarot reading: intuition, attention, meditation, and, very important, to rely in my interpretation of cards and not in just memorizing card's meaning. I've been finding this so good that I always challenge my mentees to do the same. So, this became a ritual I perform almost everyday before going to bed. I began doing this as follows: I sit, meditate, say a prayer to my Angels and open journal. I post the date and the day of the week and I describe my day – what happened, my thoughts and feelings. Those things we write in a journal. Then, I shuffle Tarot deck (I use Spiral Tarot, by Kay Stventon) and ask Tarot what guidance can give me according to what happened. I draw one card. I put t in front of me and describe the card with all details (it's amazing how from one time to another I can discover other details didn't notice in the previous description). Then I go to Mary G. Greer's " The Complete Book of Tarot Reversals " and write what the author says about that card that applies to me in that day. So, it became also a very good way of studying each card, understand it deeply without just memorizing meanings. As time went by, I noticed that the card drawn was more and more coherent with the day. And I began to introduce other issues. Nowadays, I do as I wrote above but before I go to the book, I attribute a " word " to the card and write a " phrase " that links that card with my day. The I enter " What this card is telling me " and I interpret the card thinking is what Tarot is telling me and wants me to know. Only now I go to some good book and pick what the author says that I feel applies to me. This is an exercise/study/meditation method I strongly recommend. I have one mentee that uses this and describes experiences much alike mines. Here in Portugal two of my students use the same method. All of them are considerably improving their skills. And it's really fun! Every day I look forward to the moment of the day when I'll be alone with myself (The Hermit) and look for light and wisdom… about life, but most of all, about me.
