Guest guest
Hi, Apparently raw sewage has been backing up into my basement for quite some time. I finally started having profound problems. When I had the electric eel guy here, serwage was splashed everywhere as he fought to remove the clogs. I t seems that my terra cotta sewer pipe is smashed and invaded by roots. In the next few days, I'm going to have a crew here to put in a one-way valve and plastic pipe so that this doesn't happen anymore. I know that I can use a strong bleach solution to clean the cement. but, how do I efectively clean my clothes, towels, etc that were probably exposed to aerosolized amd splashed sewage as the attempt was made to clear the pipe? If I use bleach, I'll probably ruin everything. Any cleanup / disinfecting advice would be greatly appreciated. -Thank you, -Joe

Guest guest
Joe, My next door neighbors had a similar but more acute problem. The wife was in Vegas visiting their daughter and that Friday night the husband went out to eat with some friends from work and nixed off going home right after dinner to watch the game with them. When he opened the front door he found that his entire basement had filled up with raw sewage and was also starting to cover his first floor as well. He called the police who came and said " you have a flood, what do you want us to do? " (nice huh?) Anyway, when he mentioned that it was sewage they had a meltdown and it became a hazardous waste issue. He were forced to leave the house and immediately a professional crew came in (in the middle of the night...we were wondering what was going on) and they drained the place out and gutted most of it. They decided what was to stay and what had to be tossed. Bad part is that the town is trying to get out of paying for the cleanup. A tree root strangled a pipe in the street but after the price tag was determined, the town said that the pipe that was the problem was owned by my neighbors. It took about 2 years for their house to be revamped. After the cleanup they could live upstairs, but to get their first floor and basement finished back up was just a nightmare. They even took the sheet rock off the walls that's how far they went with this clean up. It was really heartbreaking and stressful for them. I believe they discarded most everything. Gosh, waste like that is really serious, I hope bleach can save your problem. But from what I saw the recommended idea was to discard. And I think they had to properly discard of it as hazardos waste products too! Good luck with that Joe. I'll say some prayers that your situation is slight. It was an ugly experience and I hope your is nothing like theirs. Much love, Lorain joegumbosky <joegum 2006/08/01 Tue PM 10:51:00 CDT Raw sewage cleanup Hi, Apparently raw sewage has been backing up into my basement for quite some time.
