Guest guest
I doubt you or your son will like my suggestion, but it works. I stopped my child from chewing with chili. A little chili sauce painted on the nails or whatever the child is chewing. The issue here is more why he's chewing... I would certainly look into that. Is he an anxious child? When does he chew the most. The root cause needs to be found and dealt with or he'll just switch to some other destructive habbit to replace the cured one Tint~ ---- bkagreen 06/20/06 11:39:17 Stop Nail Biting Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use on my sons hands to help him stop biting his nails and always having his hands (shirt, topys, glasses, etc. he even chewed a hole in his coat this winter) in his mounth. Guest guest
Nailing biting could be caused by nervousness, mineral deficiencies or parasites. It could also be a lack of trace minerals such as silica. Without doing an evaluation it would be guesswork as to the cause. In the case of nervousness a vitamin B-complex could help calm the nerves. Taking a mineral supplement would be beneficial for mineral deficiencies. For parasites antiparasitic herbs like black walnut or garlic can be used. Guest guest
Hello Karen, I would like to suggest EFT as a possible solution. It is a self healing technique that you can self apply and works wonders for so many of life's issues and challenges. The motto of EFT is " try it on everything " I had a habit of cleaning out my eye with my fingernail all day long which was really not a good idea since our hands are exposed to so much as we use them to touch everything in sight and then I was putting that unknown element right into my soft tissue of the eye. Even though I knew this and my eye would actually become clouded throughout the day, it was an unconscious act until I used EFT on the habit and it released it and I no longer have the habit. Not sure why it got there, not sure why EFT got rid of it, but fact is ... the unwanted act and habit is gone. For more information regarding EFT (diagrams and a free download of a self teaching manual) visit www.ahealingmind.com If you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance, please feel free to ask or contact me directly and I'll be happy to guide you. Guest guest
I am going to look into all of the suggestions however, yours hit the nail on the head (no pun intended : )) As I mentioned in the ADD ADHD post my Aaron has trouble concentrating. He always has something in his mouth when he is trying to concentrate or when he is trying to go to sleep, nerbous and lots of times just becuase he is bored!!! I also have a semi-undercontrol biting habit and tend to be nervous and easily distracted. Thanks again Karen , mnewport wrote: > > Nailing biting could be caused by nervousness, mineral deficiencies or > parasites. Either the collar would get all stretched out or with long sleeves he'd chew the cuff. This is the kid who made the brilliant observation: " I can concentrate or sit still. Don't ask me to do both at the same time. Sitting still requires so much focus that I have none left for learning. " . Solving the ADD puzzle requires action on a lot of fronts. Different things work for different people. A wild food in supplement form has been our magic pill. When it comes to nutrients, you name it, it's in there.
