Hi,

I would like to recommend some sites for you to check out for a safe

withdrawal. I have gone off antidepressants in the past by just skipping it and

forgetting them as I was better. I realize though, that some of them are worse

to

get off of than others and there are more warnings against doing that for " any

drug " these days, including heart medications and daily aspirin!! There is

usually a rebound of the very same symptoms that a person initially went on the

drug for.

I wish I could suggest a natural alternative for you that has worked for me.

I had some help with Kava, Kava and then Melatonin for sleep issues.

Everything else I tried, however, did nothing..St John's Wart, Valerian, and

Bach's

stress drops. I've read recently on another health gp that Lobelia (which is a

plant that flowers) is supposed to calm a person, but I can't speak from

experience and haven't researched it. When I get depressed, anxiety is also an

issue

along with insomnia..

Unfortunately, I just had to restart one after a long spell..due to

depression, insomnia, anxiety/postbypass pain (: Couldn't take it anymore after

4

months.

benzo.org.uk : Guidelines for Withdrawal of Antidepressant Drugs, Professor

Ashton, 2001

Here is another site that should be very helpful and has a support group

SSRIs and Discontinuation Events, SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome

Also, I googled Dr. Ann Blake Tracy and found a ton of sites, as she is the

first Dr. to warn about antidepressant withdrawal and you can listen to her

talk on one site and she also has written books.

Several years ago (maybe about 5-6), my M.D. started me on Zoloft.

Stupidly, I didn't ask about, and have been taking it daily since then. Now

I find out the horrors associated with it, including the great difficulty in

trying to stop. I even read that sometimes the effects don't manifest

themselves for months/years later. The only thing that I can gather from

all my reading is that to stop, it needs to be done very gradually - very

very.

The things that should help don't seem to. I've done Kava Kava, St. John's

Wort, Chamomile, Valerian Root - on and on. I just know there are some

knowledgeable people on here that have some advice. Thanks.

Hi! How much are you coming down on your dosage and in what time

span? Are you having withdrawal symptoms or just looking for

something to help prevent them?

My son was weaned off Celexa. I guess we weaned down at least over

a 2 month period, down from 50mg/day.

I haven't started coming down yet because I want to have a good plan in

place. I take 50 mg a day. I've read the way is NOT to skip a day, then

skip days more frequently. I don't know of any other way to do it. Sure, I

could drop to 25 mg, but after that all I'd have is powder, so it seems like

the amount per day is not the way to go. So if you can't go amount per day,

and you can't go by skipping one day, then skipping more frequently, I don't

know what's left. Also if I start by skipping one doze per week, I don't

know how long a period to continue on six days per week before dropping to

five days per week. I read somewhere that coming down in less than a year

was dangerous, especially being on as many years as I have.

Hi Louise, it was easier on my son since he did take a liquid. I'll

ask in one of my groups about coming off of it and see what responses

I get and pass on to you!

Louise, I've got a couple replies this a.m. I'll post again if I

get any more.

So far:

I took Zoloft for years as well as my daughter. The doctor told me

to take my daughter off of hers immediately, with no tapering at

all, because she was only on 50mg. ...I was on 100mg, he had me go

down to 50mg for a week than down to 25. Now am totally off.

Both myself and my dd had no problems discontinuing this med

AND

I think that when....weaned off Zoloft last year(she was at 25mg),

her dr. had us give it to her every other day for 2 weeks, then every

3 days for 2 weeks, then stop altogether. I would think 25mg would

be similar to 50mg for an adult.

That's all for now!
