Dear Trisha,

I had a file on natural help for seizures,

courtesy of Marilyn Jackson aka "Charlie's Mom".

I managed to lose it, but I did just get this in the mail.

And there are a few that deal

specifically with seizures.

epilespycured and epilepsyresearch

In the Chinese system seizures are known as

"liver fire flaring".

So anything you do for your liver may help seizures.

And if it doesn't, the only side effect is a healthier

liver.

Try Acupuncture.

I had a friend whose seizures improved greatly

with enzymes and bluegreen algae, the ultimate

brainfood.

The right fats are hugely important.

Anyway, don't give up hope!

Hiya allRemember how I've been encouraging folks to look to diet for seizure control? How much stuff I've posted over the years? Here's an email from another Mom who's child had difficult seizures, brought under control by diet.Like our experience, she too had to find a doc who's interest in their patients went beyond the prescription pad....It's a tough road with our brain damaged children, but there is hope. Just don't stop looking and trying. Please pass this on.PS - the 'code' gfcfsf = gluten free (no wheat, barley, oats or rye), casein free (no dairy products) soy free (read the ingredients panels..... soy, soy beans and soy oil and high fructose corn syrup are in most processed foods)Charlie's MommjhIn a message dated 3/19/06 4:07:04 P.M. We knew about peanut as she was sooooirritable when she had any. Chocolate is another thatsends her close to seizures, even milk free varieties. The IgG 90 panel showed gluten and casein at only a+1; but the testing through Cade's lab showed a highresponse to both. The high urine opiods confirmed forme that something needed to be done. That is why Ifinally tried the diet. It was very scary those first3 days. I almost quite thinking 'what the heck have Idone!' As Andy says, the hydrogenated fats are so badfor our kids, so we stay off of those as she does getvery irritable with them. Much of the time whateveryone refers to as bad behavior is truly a 'preseizure' state. Took me a long time to put all thistogether. We had tried the ketogenic diet for almost ayear with decent seizure control but... she began toself injure and also started a pattern that lookedlike tourette's. Both of those cleared when we stoppedthe ketogenic diet. We lost our neuro doc over gfcfsfand the mention of mercury. He was not interested inanything but more meds to solve the problem.Currently, she takes only 50mg[from a high of 800mgper day] of compounded tegretol at bedtime and will beoff that soon. She also eats low phenol, no additives,as organic as we can, and has shown additional goodresponse to reducing oxalates. I can't stress enoughthe value of getting pure on the diet with NOinfringements to see if your child is a responder. The diet 'hassle' has definitely been a life saver forour daughter.
