Guest guest
If you would like to save money on drops, just use drops of adult Pepto-Bismol. Exact same thing, just use the dropper that comes with the other drops(Little Tummys. ) The active ingredient is simethicone. Are you nursing? If so, avoid broccoli, cabbage, things that are spicy, and eat mild foods. Oatmeal is good and makes the milk taste good. Also, lay infant face down over lap and pound (not to bruise, just press tummy gas out the back) diaper(not fabric, but Pamper's, Huggies, etc) maybe 50 times and then stop!... suddenly. Helps with gas and she may also be sound asleep. . Hope this helps! "Life is But a Dream"Athena

Guest guest
Does anyone know of a good remedy for infant (3 1/2 Mo.) gas? We're not comfortable with the Peds recommendation of Mylicon. We use Gripe Water, Fennel Tea, keep her upright after feeding, and have used Simethicone (Little Tummy's) drops. We've also tried all the holding positions possible to help expel the gas. We've experimented with formula but no change. Are we just nervous new parents? Thanks

Guest guest
Try paying attention to what you eat. Perhaps its something baby is getting from your breast milk. Also sometimes something as simple as sugar water can give relief. Good luck, and relax ! --- On Wed 03/22, assetman2002 < cmevans1 > wrote:assetman2002 [ cmevans1] Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2006 02:12:40 -0000 Breastfed Infant Gas HelpDoes anyone know of a good remedy for infant (3 1/2 Mo.) gas? Guest guest
Does anyone know of a good remedy for infant (3 1/2 Mo.) gas? I would look to the causes. Is there a difference depending on what Mom is eating? Some kids will get gassy if Mom eats, say, cabbage or onions or milk. The key may also be the intestinal flora of your baby. Was she a There is a probiotic made especially for babies by a company called Natren. Go to the Natren website for all their wonderful information on Probiotics, and then get your products cheaper at this website: check out http://vitacost.com for discount in Natren's Healthy Trinity @ 35.00/bottle Good luck, and keep us posted! Guest guest
I usually recommend catnip and fennel together in a liquid form and adding a small amount of bifidus, l-reuteri or acidophilus (probiotics) from an opened capsule to the milk or on mother's nipple before breast feeding. , " Ieneke van Houten " <ienvan wrote: > > > > Does anyone know of a good remedy for infant (3 1/2 Mo.) gas? > > I would look to the causes. > Is there a difference depending on > what Mom is eating? > Some kids will get gassy if Mom > eats, say, cabbage or onions or milk. > > The key may also be the intestinal > flora of your baby. > Was she a > There is a probiotic made especially > for babies by a company called Natren. > Go to the Natren website for all their > wonderful information on Probiotics, > and then get your products cheaper > at this website: > > check out http://vitacost.com for > discount in Natren's > Healthy Trinity @ 35.00/bottle > > Good luck, and keep us posted! > > Ien in the Kootenays > ************************** > Stop. Guest guest
Also my first question . . . Have you tryed soy base or rice base formula? I take it your not breatsfeeding?? Are you feeding them when they are famished and so they are eating very fast? Also You can try Gentian: make a tea and give 1tsp in a cup/bottle of warm water. Caraway and anise: Combine the two and make a tea. Allspice; cinnamon both relieve colic symptoms and you can do a Dill tea but dilute it. Fenugreek tea as well. Diluted apple concentrate can also assist in gas/colic. What has the Dr. told you? What tests have been done to rule everything else out? Nervous parents? Nah, what parent would not be concerned or want to relieve their child of pain?!! Josie , " Lisa Day " <day6 wrote: > > Is she in discomfort and if so, explain further? Guest guest
Ok re read the original message . . . you ARE breastfeeding . . . Have you changed your diet? Alot of spicey and veggies can cause gas in infants. My sister had the same problem and had to have a bland diet. No carbonated drinks, certain veggies, no spices on the food she cooked like her meats, she even had to cut dairy out of her diet and switch to rice, soy or almond milk(s). Maybe play around with your diet as well make it more bland and see if that helps. Hope this helps Josie , " Lisa Day " <day6 wrote: > > Is she in discomfort and if so, explain further? Guest guest
Boy this brings back memories! My little girl had " colic " - as the doctors call it - until she was about 4 months old. I tried every little trick I could find and that the docs suggested. I was a new Mom and didn't have a lot of background. I cut out the usual culprits out of my diet such as cow milk, beans, etc. Finally a friend of mine told me she had to cut out wheat products. The day I cut wheat her crying and gas as at least 50% better and by the second day it was gone. Food allergies often cause gas. She can now eat wheat with no problems. , " Ieneke van Houten " <ienvan wrote: > > > > Does anyone know of a good remedy for infant (3 1/2 Mo.) gas? Guest guest
Have you tried infant massage? There are several different abdominal massages you can learn and use to relieve gas. My little guy is 4 months old and whenever he's a bit gassy, I use these different massages to help move it out of him...and shortly afterward hear a loud fart (or smell it) or sometimes even see a bowel movement. Refer to Dr. Sears' Baby book...there are some instructions in there, or find a massage therapist that specializes in infant massage. It can be easily learned so you can do it yourself. In general, I've found that massage has taught me to listen to my little guy, relieve his pain and stress and also bond with him. Some people say that their baby will sleep all night long, however, this hasn't been my case (but I'm ok with it, as I co-sleep). Massage also relieves a lot of birth trauma. Something you will observe is that you while you are lovingly massaging your baby around the neck, shoulders and head, they may cry (If the birth was vaginal). Like everybody, babies have the need to just get a good cry in, to get that tension out. Over time, it will decrease - I've noticed this with my son, who didn't like me massaging his right shoulder (he didn't turn during birth, so I suspect his shoulder was caught on my pelvic bone) and he would let me know it! But now that I've let him express it, he is much more calm about it. I would like to ask how you know for sure it's gas and not something else. Crying is the way that babies communicate and the super sensitive baby will pick up on tension and stress and try to tell you that they need a different atmosphere. As you continue to get to know your baby, you will learn his/her language and know exactly if massage is needed, feeding is needed, sleeping is needed, or just momma-time is needed. Of course, there still might be times where you don't know and want to rip your hair out. I hope this helps. Maria
