Guest guest
<One more question on the note of what could cause Bi Polar (Manic Depression). Every woman in my family did not find out about the disorder until their late 30's early 40's.. All the women have had a tubal ligation, hysterectomy or both... Is there a endocrine connection here? Anyone have any ideas or answers??> Hi Gigi, What a fascinating observation! I certainly have no clear cut answers, but I do have an observation of my own. I have long been intrigued by the correlation between adrenal gland function and ADHD. Bipolar and ADHD are often linked, not always. There is a connection to allergies as well. Allergies always happen in the context of weak adrenal glands. Later in life when our sex glands start slowing down the adrenals and thyroid are vulnerable and more prone to exhaustion. (Ask Michelle Gluth for her thorough work on that topic) Anyhow, to come at this from a totally different angle, I have been reading this book on natural recovery from Parkinson's Disease. See footnote* Chapter 5 goes deeply into the relationship between the adrenaline-driven "fight-or-flight" system, vs the dopamine-driven "rest-and-repair" system. Actually, the author points out later on that the sympathetic nervous system should be called "Fight or Flight or Freeze system". It describes how the mind cannot be effective when the person is driven by adrenaline system, but adrenalin LEVELS are low. quote: <the low levels of adrenaline allow the mind to scrabble around quickly from one thought to the next, often getting nowhere: the mind in a pointless whirl. This frame of mind can manifest as unfocused rambling, confusion, or even anxiety.> Gee, does that sound familiar? <When the adrenaline system is dominant, (the dopamine system is not in use) but adrenaline levels are extremely low or exhausted, the mind simply doesn't know how to be effective. Depression or panic may ensue.> The mind can be <"charging ahead, dithering in confusion, or moldering helplessly in depression"> snip<Fear is the motivator that activates the adrenaline system. The mind-driven self preservation instinct, whether raging at lightning speed in self defense or just potheringly worried about things in general, dominates when fear is present.> I have found that a herbal formula that nourishes the adrenal system in particular really helps me and my officially ADD son to focus. Gigi's question: could there be an endocrine connection to bipolar? Body, mind and spirit are a continuous feedback loop. Start anywhere to affect any part. It wouldn't hurt to deeply nourish and balance (not tweak, nourish) your glandular system, and see what happens. (ask for more on that off list ienvan ) Ien in the Kootenays*******************************Different things work for different people. To see what works for our ADD home send a blank email toalexstory******************************* Footnote *The basic premise is that idiopathic Parkinson's is the result of damage to the body's energy system. It resulted from an unhealed injury to the foot combined with a certain stoic personality type that denies the injury. The PDer, as they are fondly known, becomes a driven type A personality functioning on adrenaline rather than a mix of adrenaline and dopamine. The dopamine system goes dormant. The condition shows up as disease years later once the adrenal glands become exhausted.
