It seems to have curative powers to the lungs. Bake with love:) 1 1/3 c. sugar 1/3 c. Crisco 2 eggs 1 2/3 c. sifted flour 1/4 t. baking powder 1 t. soda (baking soda) 3/4 t. salt 1/2 t. ground cinnamon 1/4 t. ground cloves 1/3 c. water (mixed well with pumpkin) 1/3 c. nutmeats, more or less, if desired 1 c. (no more) pumpkin Blend sugar, crisco, and eggs together. Add pumpkin and water. Sift dry ingredients together and add to other mixture. Add nutmeats. Hi Ben, Crisco is flavorless, solidifed vegetable oil or shortening, for cooking. The brand name in America is Crisco. Before it was invented people used Lard (animal fat). Here is the website: www.crisco.com. You can substitute unsalted butter, or if using salted butter, but be sure to leave the salt out of the recipe or it will be too salty. Nutmeats are just nuts...like pecans, walnuts. I usually don't use nuts. The bread by itself is heavenly. If anyone knows how to convert this recipe to the metric system, please help.
