Athena's Pumpkin Bread

(This recipe dates back to 1974 and is out of this world). It seems to have

curative powers

to the lungs. Bake with love:)

1 1/3 c. sugar

1/3 c. Crisco

2 eggs

1 2/3 c. sifted flour

1/4 t. baking powder

1 t. soda (baking soda)

3/4 t. salt

1/2 t. ground cinnamon

1/4 t. ground cloves

1/3 c. water (mixed well with pumpkin)

1/3 c. nutmeats, more or less, if desired

1 c. (no more) pumpkin

Blend sugar, crisco, and eggs together. Add pumpkin and water. Sift dry

ingredients together and add to other mixture. Add nutmeats. Grease and flour

one large loaf pan and Bake 1 hour at 350 F.

God bless you

Athena

what are "criscos'n nutmeats?

Rgds,

Ben.

Hi Ben, Crisco is flavorless, solidifed vegetable oil or shortening, for cooking. The brand name in America is Crisco. Before it was invented people used Lard (animal fat). Here is the website: www.crisco.com. You can substitute unsalted butter, or if using salted butter, but be sure to leave the salt out of the recipe or it will be too salty.

Nutmeats are just nuts...like pecans, walnuts.

I usually don't use nuts.

The bread by itself is heavenly.

If anyone knows how to convert this recipe to the metric system, please help.

Ben, where do you live? Someone in Australia had also not heard of Crisco.

Thank you

Athena
