If your lips are swelling up, it is most likely due to an allergic reaction to something. Have you noticed a pattern the appearance of the hives and/or lip swelling? I'm asking because I went through several years of getting hives, welts, and swollen lips and eyes for " unknown reasons. " Finally, I went into anaphylactic shock during a surgery, and after eliminating all other possible reasons, it was determined that I'm allergic to latex. I cannot be exposed to latex balloons, gloves, rubber soles (on shoes), car tires, rubber balls, etc., without experiencing some form of allergic response. As long as I avoid actually touching the latex, I generally only have to deal with watery eyes, a stuffy nose and a scratchy throat, but even so, it takes at least three doses of Benadryl to completely stop the reaction. Most people are NOT allergic to latex, but your symptoms are so similar to mine, I wanted to bring up the possibility and recommend you get tested by an allergist.

I know where you are coming from! I have had hives for over a year and tried everything I could think of: antihistimines (which help for a minute, but as soon as they wear off.. worse than ever), homeopathy & Chinese herbs with limited success, acupuncture, biofeedback, elimination diet, hating the hives, loving the hives, ignoring the hives, scratching/not scratching... you get the point.

The worst is when I get them on the soles of my feet and then also when my lips swell up. -- Niinimoshenh Keith Piskur
