New and Essential Oils

I have just joined the group. I belong to other herbal groups and

things but thought this would be more well rounded as it covers

EVERYTHING! I am somewhat new to natural medicine (been into it for

maybe 6-12 months now and LOVE it by the way). I cannot wait to be

part of this group and gain more wisdom. I do have an question...I am

extremely new to essential oils. I recently aquired a recipe from a

friend for thieves oil. I have mixed it but would love to know of all

the uses of it. She suggest it for sickness but are their other uses

or no? I also know that you rub a few drops on the bottom of your

feet...now if you are new to this, I read to dilute it with olive oil

first also when using it on a child...is this the right thing I read?

Want to make sure I have it right before trying it. Can essential oils

be harmful in any way? Thank you all.

Marci,I just recently started using Thieves after a surgical incision was determined to be infected with MRSA, a penicillin-resistant infection. My primary recommendation is to dilute it using vegetable oil or honey (for oral use), or a base oil used for massage. I have been rubbing it directly on the incision and after only using it for a week or so, I'm noticing a big difference both in the way I feel, and in the appearance of the incision itself. My husband recently used it orally to ward off a cold, as well as a urinary tract infection. I hope this helps! TraceyOn 12/28/05, Marci <twilli55 wrote:

Would you please post the recipe/formula for your Thieves oil? I've heard of Thieves tincture; is this the same thing?

Thanks,

Sanandra

Marci,

Essential oils should ALWAYS be diluted, even for adults.

Here is a great website for learning about all things essential:

Enjoy!

Dear Marci,

Thieves Essential oil is from " Young Living Essential Oil Company " , the recipe

is NOT a

secret

it contains clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary. State University

Ogden Utah

tested it and found to have a 99.96% effective rate against airborne bacteria.

I use Thieves as antiseptic agent for house cleaning, brush my teeth with it,

put on my

hands after using public facilities, and so on.

YES, Essential Oil can be dangerous. Thieves and others can irritate you skin,

eyes (if you

touch it with your finger with even little oil on it), you skin can be

photosensitive after

applying some oils (avoid the sun). I would not recommend Essential Oils for

very small

children before educating your self about how they work. On the other hand

" Peace &

Calming " blend is perfect for children.

Not every Essential Oil is therapeutic grade, and Therapeutic Essential oils are

NOT

aromatherapy oils although some smell pretty nice.

So Marci I suggest, go to http://www.youngliving.us/ try different links and

see what is

there. Another side to explore is http://www.essentialscience.net you can find

books and

more on Essential Oils. If you want to order from Young Living you need sponsor/

distributor to register, if you want you can use my name/# Jolanta van

Dijk-Pietrzak

Namaste,

I use Thieves Oil neat on the bottoms of

my feet and orally. It is considered a hot oil because of the cinnamon in

it. Some people can tolerate a drop on the tongue better than others. I use

Thieves anytime I am going to be around a group of people. I have been using

it for almost three years and have not had the flu. I am a true believer in

it.

I can tell you the oils that are in it, but not the amounts. Please give me a few days to respond. My husband and I are dealing with the impending death of a friend. I mainly came online to delete email, but I saw this and wanted to acknowledge it. I will post the oils that are in " Thieves " as soon as I get a chance.
