Guest guest
This item came from the online newsletter of Ode magazine, http://www.odemagazine.com Aspirin definitely—but not indefinitelyAspirin is the most popular painkiller in the world. Each year, 50 billion tablets are consumed worldwide. Besides offering pain relief, aspirin is also used to prevent strokes, heart disease and certain types of cancer. Many regular users—who number more than 20 million in the United States—use the pills to try to prevent cardiovascular disease. But while aspirin can reduce the risk of a repeat heart attack or stroke by 25 percent, new research cited in the medical newsletter What Doctors Don’t Tell You (September 2005) has also shown that aspirin doesn’t work for everyone indefinitely. This phenomenon is referred to as “aspirin resistance” or “aspirin failure.” And it now seems that people who regularly take aspirin develop an aspirin tolerance, resulting in a reduced effect. The magazine advises confirmed aspirin users to consider alternatives to give their heart a break such as acupuncture, meditation and yoga. And the following herbs have a similar impact without the side effects: Ammi visnaga, danshen, ginkgo biloba, chamomile, goldenseal, Oregon grape root and sour thorn.
