Guest guest
Dear Friend, Namaste. My mother suffers from Hiatal Hernia and she sometimes cannot swallow food and must go vomit right in the middle of a stressful meal. Sometimes if she leaves the table and walks around, the food will eventually go down, but it is very painful for her. We try to stick to calm happy dinnertable topics, laughing, and not mention any family problems.. ONE THING that seems to help her...is to drink a real COKE with her meal. The bubbles help open her esophagus. I am not sure where she got this tip. Sipping before a bite makes a dramatic difference. Drinks that seem to make the condition worse are acid, like Orange Juice. I hope this helps! God bless you, Athena
Guest guest
My father suffers from hiatal hernias. Are there any safe, effectiveremedies, treatment for hiatal hernia? How serious can the conditionbe. Appreciate any helpful replies. Lynda Appell Hi Lynda, Hiatal Hernia can be helped greatly by lifestyle changes, and by any measures that improves digestion as a whole. Take small, frequent meals rather than one big one, and ideally take a short relaxed walk right after the meal. If a walk is not possible, at least stay upright! Do not lay back in your favorite recliner. It makes perfect sense if you think about what a hiatal hernia is. (This is for any newcomers on the list who don't know) Hiatal hernia is a protrusion, a "sticking out" of the stomach through the gap in the diaphragm that your esophagus goes through. The diaphragm is the muscular floor that separates your chest cavity from your abdominal cavity. It is what moves when you breathe. The muscle may slacken with age, and the hole gets less tight, so the top of the stomach pokes through where it doesn't belong. Obviously the chance of this happening is greater if you overload the stomach. You do not want stomach acid in your esophagus. It hurts, and over time it may damage the esophagus. Antacids or drugs are no solution. They help the heartburn for a moment, but in the long run you want to digest your food, and in order to do that, you need your stomach acid! Stomach acid is also your first line of defence against many infectious diseases. If real coke helps, who am I to say to not do that, but it is pretty noxious stuff. Many people find they digest food better if they take a few sips of raw apple cider vinegar in water at the beginning of a meal. Worth a try, and nothing is lost if it doesn't do good. Drinking lots of water, with a wee bit of sea salt at some point, is a good idea. Digestive enzymes and probiotics help with overall digestion. If the above measure are not enough, Dr Mercola recommends a gentle form of structural work called NST. Google Mercola. I hope this helps, Let us know how Dad makes out!
