SOY ... healthy, helpful or not

I just read an article by a scientist which said that ...

soy contains:

allergens

mineral blockers

enzyme inhibitors

hormone modifiers

iodine blockers that interfere with normal thyroid function

I drink 16 - 20 oz of soy milk everyday. I can't imagine that this

amount would be harmful regardless however ... I do want to be

conscious of what I'm putting into my body.

I would REALLY like to hear what others have read, their opinions,

comments, or ????

Thank you, Sarah

Sarah,

A while back we had a discussion on that

very topic.

You can go into the archives and look up

the messages under the topic: "let's have

a soy poll!"

Do you need help with that?

Most experts agree that soy is better taken

in fermented form, in moderation.

This is the way it is used in the cultures that

traditionally used soy.

Tofu is not a fermented product. It was

used mainly in small quantities, mixed with

warm spices like garlic, pepper and ginger

to balance the cold energy of raw soy.

Some people are deadly allergic to soy.

Some people find it very helpful to help

combat overheating during "the change".

It is NOT good for babies. Too much

estrogenic activity.

The question for you is: how do YOU feel?

I found it the previous " soy survey " !

Thank you so much for the info.

I drink the soy for the hot " surges " (or should I say, " So I don't

get the hot surges " ).

Thank you !

Hi all,

" To soy or not to soy " is always an interesting topic with lots of

opinions. So, I just thought I would throw mine in!

Because it stimulates estrogen receptors, soy is best avoided for

women in perimenopause (when estrogen is in excess). For women who

have reached menopause (12 full months without a cycle) it's more

helpful but should still be used in moderation.

Soy compromises thyroid function, and during " the change " , the

thyroid hormones, like ALL hormones in the body, are going pretty

wacky. A great number of women have hypothyroidism without knowing

it because the symptoms mimic those of perimenopause and menopause.

They also intensify the " normal " symptoms of midlife.

Fermented, NON-GMO, organic and moderate use is the key. A little

goes a long way. My personal fave ~ a cup of miso soup. So balancing

and yummy and all the soy you really need to do the trick!

Just my HO,

Michelle
