Can anyone please give me some advice for an alternative treatment for a 16 yr old with Bi Polar disorder. This is for a friend of mine, and has already used conventional medicine which simply over medcated her son.

Dear Trisha,

I am bipolar, and take Lamactil, Lexapro and Wellbutrin and feel great (finally).

My daughter, I suspect is bipolar also. She can't tolerate Prozac, which is the only one approved for teens (doesn't cause suicide).

I notice that she is better when she takes vitamins.

Bipolar has to be leveled out.

Pasta raises serotonin, as does chocolate and nutrasweet, and mushrooms, I believe. Caffeine may help. Vitamin C and B and calcium calm you. Maybe whole wheat breads would help.

The typical Thanksiving meal is filled with good feeling foods.

Eating whole foods instead of processed ones. But some processed foods have mood elevators in them to make you crave the food. MSG is one.

Keeping a food diary might help and a mood chart.

My daughter is 15, by the way

God bless you,

Athena

I too would be interested in the responses to this question. I have a

21 year old niece that is Bi Polar and refuses to take medications.

Thanks, Sarah

Omega 3 and omega 6 are supposedly good for bipolar.

What conventional meds did you try?
