Guest guest
An excellent article on essential fatty acids taken from a popular fitness site. JoAnn DON LEMMON PRESENTS THE TRUTH ABOUT EXERCISE AND NUTRITION: Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids Are But A Part Of EFA's! This is for those of you who want more information as to why fats are so important in your diet despite the phobias the media has created for you. Let me tell you, if you do not at least add just a tablespoon of the right essential fats to your food once a day, NO matter WHAT diet plan you follow, NO other supplements will fully benefit you NOR will your food digest properly NOR will anything else you do regarding health, exercise or dieting work in your favor. Without essential fatty acids your entire body will slowly, but surely FAIL. Men can't build muscle and women, well, there are several issues. One is breast reduction. Many women fear losing their breasts on a diet. Well, you won't worry so much if you take in the right essential fats. Forget about those ads promising " Increase your bust up to 2 full cup sizes " and those " breast increasing formulas " like Bloussant and Femex. You DO NOT NEED THEM. What you need are fatty acids that work for you, not a low fat diet. In fact, I haven't met a woman yet who eats a low fat diet that doesn't experience degenerative reproductive system disorders (like not having a period) nor a man who doesn't end up with a low sperm or testosterone count. I had a friend once who was a smoker and couldn't get his wife pregnant for over 10 years. They blamed the smoking. I did too because nicotine deletes essential fats from inside of you. The wife didn't smoke however she did happen to follow a low fat diet to 'maintain' her womanly figure. After 30 days of their taking the essential oil I recommended, she became pregnant and he regained an admirable ego over his manhood. Remember, for 10 years, they achieved nothing. No baby, lot's of trying. He still smoked. She still ate low fat. But they both took essential fats. BOOM. Suddenly there was a baby. Impotent? No. Coincidence? No. Malnourished? Yes. Depleted? Yes. Ladies, is your skin bad? Dry? Blotchy? Pale? Or do you have liver spots? Sun spots? You need fats.... Good fats... No, not Evening Of Primrose oil. That's not even close to solving your troubles. And no, it's not about black currant oil either... And it's not just for women. Teens, bodybuilders, elderly... Got acne? Got stretch marks? Got liver spots? You need essential fats... Can't poo-poo? You not only need fiber, but protein AND essential fats.... Fats are probably the single most important nutrient we neglect and although they only account for 10% of the 100 essential listed nutrients, they are responsible for the success of those other 90% of your essential nutrients. Good fat regulates hormones. Bad fats destroy your hormones. Vitamins require fats. Minerals require fats. Even oxygen is dependent of essential fats... We discuss in the KNOW HOW Exercise & Nutrition book, how the liver normally puts excess cholesterol in bile and sends it to the gall bladder, which then empties it into the small intestine just below the stomach for excretion. This is a natural process and routine that we must accommodate. If not, we experience elevated cholesterol levels in the blood. It is a process dependent of essential fats. That's right, some fats regulate cholesterol and reverse high blood pressure. Bad fats, like those in snack foods, creamy peanut butter and many health store bought foods, raise your cholesterol. It's a fact. Essential fats do not make you fat. Bad fat does. The body instantly recognizes essential fats as 'good' for you and puts them to use for healing, FAT burning and growth as soon as you ingest them. Like it or not, those of you eating high protein bars and meal replacement powders that aren't making progress, this is why. They contain BAD fats... The important thing to know next is that essential fats come in different forms just like vitamins and minerals do and they must be taken in the right amounts, proper mixtures and just like the suggested RDA percentages of other nutrients, if we want results, we better get enough. Sticking your foot in the water doesn't mean you went for a swim. Submerse yourself. It feels GOOD... Here is the problem. Since around 1900, the wrong type of fats began appearing in our diets and it's presence has increased by about 20 times over what it used to be. This is because REFINED vegetable oils are much more affordable at the commercial level. We are unwittingly eating bad fats instead of good fats because someone at the food manufacturing plant decided it would save a few dollars. This includes health food. Trust me, Snackwell's cookies are NOT healthy... So, it's no wonder your health has degenerated and you can't get into shape as easy as you would like to. Your health food is actually junk food. And more recently (over the last 20 years) 'low' fat, 'no' fat, and 'fake' fat diets have been depriving people of even more essential fats than ever before. This means we not only eat bad fats in everything we buy but we are cutting back on what little good fat we used to eat to begin with. What can we do? Well, the Harvard School of Public Health warned of the dangers of eating margarine, commercially baked snack goods, and deep fried foods instead of real butter, making your own snacks and avoiding KFC but you wouldn't listen. Processed foods are NOT the same as good fats like extra virgin olive oil (means the olive hasn't fallen from the tree before processing) and fresh nut and seed oils. But it isn't always enough to simply add fish to the diet or have a tablespoon of flax seed oil. I know Omega 3 fatty acids are all the rage but too much of one essential fat over another will cause a deficiency of ALL the fats. Using flax oil alone can actually lead to a shortage of omega 6 fats if you aren't careful. Why? It's like taking Vitamin C alone. Other nutrients must be present for it to work properly. If they aren't present, the body is either leached of the nutrients or you are painfully forced to rejected the key nutrient you hoped would help you to begin with. It's not a Catch 22 situation. This is how things work and you need to get a grasp of it. Individual fats (triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, etc) all are responsible for the production of the precursors for every single one of your body's hormones, tissues and cells. This includes the ones for creating a baby, controlling acne, building muscle and burning body fat. But in order to understand how to get the proper balance, you need another quick lesson on GOOD vs BAD fats. Good fats act as anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and produce fat burning enzymes. Cholesterol is an essential fat that coats every cell in your body and that is just one of the good fats (you read that right). You MUST also ingest another fat source called gamma linolenic acid just to activate your 'good' brown fat cells to burn away your bad and ugly 'white' fat cells too. Borage oil is a good source of this one. Think cellulite.... Cellulite is caused partially in part by margarine and lards which are unfortunately marketed as natural oils because they are 'cholesterol' free. Well, they really aren't good for you and these things are actually what's killing you inside out. Drop these unnatural fats and all foods containing them from your diet and you will watch your 'bad' LDL cholesterol levels decrease quite rapidly and cellulite disappear almost over night. It isn't your genetics that made you fat. It's your eating HABITS. Vitamins are like a good football team. You need a full team on the field. Some others from the roster are left on the bench waiting, watching the others on the field, each member knowing what to do when necessary and each taking on a different job. A good team doesn't bully it's own players nor feed off another member. Each works with it's team mate's strengths without becoming weak or weakening the other. All nutrients are meant to work together this way, and none really stand alone, no matter how powerful you think they are. Minerals are different from vitamins and are more like having fans in the stadium. Without fans, there really isn't any support for your vitamin team. In other words, there is no motivation for the vitamins to work their hardest without minerals. While some of the minerals are more visible and exciting than the others and may appear to be more important, kind of like cheerleaders, but without even just one row of fans sitting in the stands, you can easily tell that something is missing. Even if you do not know what it is for sure at first, or who they are, something is still not right, and it could cost you the game. It gets worse when the team hasn't any direction to guide them either. The best of all teams needs coaches. Fats are the coaches, trainers and administration that normally go unaccredited for pulling the vitamin team together and gathering the fan support of minerals. The fans love them for what they do, so without having a good foundation of coaches, the entire stadium falls apart. You NEED some fats. They are called essential fats.... http://www.donlemmon.com/essential-fatty-acid-omega-3-oil-blend.html JoAnn Guest mrsjoguest DietaryTipsForHBP http://www.geocities.com/mrsjoguest/EFAs.html http://www.geocities.com/mrsjoguest/AIM.html
