Guest guest
Ok, heres how it goes. Am so ill at presant (mixture of underlying dammage from last xmas) and the drugs they put me on recently. To be more presice, Laroxile (alis Amtripraline), then Athymil to try to get off that, then Doxapine. Tryed getting off the Doxapine with Athymil, then vise versa. Was on very low Doxapine (4 drops) but evon this amount has had terrible effects. Tryed stopping the Doxapine 5 days ago and now am seavearly deppressed/anxious (was before I started taking it from the other meds before), very weak/heavy, have cramps, intence pain all over, and feel very violent and agressive, also want to be sick all the time with intence vertigo, and getting strange iching skin. Borderline psychotic type stuff. I need to take something or will find myself back in hospital with in a few days (again). Its sunday everything is closed. I have to hand : Immuacal, Omega3/6 pills, St johns wort, Inositol, and I think a bottle of L-Tyrosine. All of this was bought on the net from the States and sent to france between 6 months and a year ago (most of these things are not available in france), last time tryed coming off meds infact. Dont know what to take or do. Please help, am very scared of what may happen in the next few days. Jason Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Guest guest
Jason, I do not know when you started taper, over what period of time, how fast it was etc. I think that you need the help of the benzo and anti depressant forums. We try and educate people about these drugs but the real intense support is in those groups. I cannot tell you what is right for you or what to do, If it were me, I would go back on whatever the last medicine was, try and restabalize on it and then retaper very slowly. This the basically the same advise that I have said all along. You must learn about these drugs to the point that you undertsand what is happening in your body. If you understand what is going on it is not so scary. And you can control somewhat what is happening. You must control the taper, not the doctors, over a long period of time to allow you to adjust it to keep the symptoms under control somewhat. When you make a small cut in dosage, with antideps, you will have to wait a couple of weeks to expect to see what the results in symptoms are going to be. If they get too bad, you take a little more etc. Why did you take all those medicines one on top of another from doctors to cover? You say that you have been a member of the benzo group and the antidep groups for many years, why would you keep taking other drugs? Didn't you read about tapering? If not get the Ashton Manual from someone on the benzo group. I think that they will give it to you for a few dollars ot even free. It is on benzos which have a more immediate effect between dosage and withdrawal symptoms. For most people, antidepressants usually take longer to have a cause and effect so it usually should be even slower. Contact Lynn at SSRI research. The link is on our links page. She has found some things which help to deal with the wihtdrawal symptoms, but the taper is very important in trying to give your brain chemistry a gradual pace to allow it to readjust over a long period of time as you reduce your dosage. I wish that I had a magic pill that I could recommend. I do not. The doctors say they do. Here take this we are experts in magic pills. It isn't so and it usually is worse than the original complaint. Your brain can adjust your brain chemicals very well if it gets the basic building blocks (many different nutrients). It is just that these drugs are an assualt on that chemistry and the chemical control mechanisms. It will take time for your body and brain to clear and re right itself. When a person keeps putting in more chemicals, it cannot do so. The long slow taper is the best that I know in having some control over the severity of the symptoms. Lynn in the SSRI research group can tell you of some things that will help restore that balance and help dampen the severity also. I keep saying that there are a lot of messages in the archives and the links, but I do not think that you have read them at this point. I get the impression that you want us to recommend a pill that will cover up the withdrawal symptoms no matter what and that isn't quite feasable. Many people do get off these drugs. Some easier than others. It seems that the ones who get the best are those who self educate themselves about these drugs and who control their own taper to control their own symptoms etc. I suggest that you reeducate yourself about these drugs. Not just that they are bad for you, but how they work or don't work depending on your point of view. What neurotransmitters are involved. What nutrients affect those neurotransmitters. What are the usual experiences of people who are tapering and getting off to use as general guidelines so that you can adjust them to you personally, etc. I doubt if this letter is what you want, but I am trying to tell you the truth as I understand it. I know, better said than done. Just try to maintain a good nutritional profile by following an organic diet if organics are available in your country. If not eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, alaskan salmon and sardines(preferably in water). If you have a juicer handy you might juice as well. The health of your brain is dependent on how many fatty acids you are giving it daily. The other dietary options would be to eat some raw nuts (no dry roasted please). The very best ones would be almonds, brazils (for their selenium content) cashews and organic eggs. Also if you take at least 200 mcgs of selenium each day supplmentally it helps with detox. You most definitely need a good detox to get all those poisons you have been ingesting out of your system! If you can obtain Essiac tea please do so. It is also sold under the name of Floressence and is available in most health food stores. It provides an excellent detox. Although I have no idea what brands of essential fatty acids you have in your hand, I know that the efficacy of those depend largely on the brand/source. At this moment in time the fresh fatty acids you get in alaskan salmon (either canned or fresh) and sardines will provide more benefit. There is a website devoted to getting you off benzos. We had some family members who were addicted to them. It just depends on which ones you're taking and how long you've been taking them as to the degree of hold they have over you. The ones I'm familiar with are ativan and xanax. This can be done however it takes a period of time and a lot of patience. Once this is accomplished you will feel like a free individual again. The people I've observed have really gotten their life back. It is well worth the effort. Don't give up, just perservere and you will make it! Just don't rely on the doctors to help you with withdrawal. If you have a problem they only offer more drugs. Don't fall for it!!! One drug cannot replace another. There is none that work contrary to popular opinion. Best of Luck with it all, JoAnn
