Guest guest
Greenpeace Welcomes the Ratificiaton of the Biosafety Protocol by Spain JoAnn Guest Aug 05, 2003 18:02 PDT Greenpeace welcomes the ratification of the Biosafety Protocol by Spain Madrid, Spain, 25 January 2002: Greenpeace learnt today that the Spanish government ratified the Biosafety Protocol (or Cartagena Protocol) on 16 January 2002, and welcomes this step. Spain is the second European country to ratify the protocol, an agreement which is designed to regulate the international trade, handling and uses of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The Netherlands ratified it on 6 January 2002. Eleven countries have now ratified it but 39 additional countries have to do so before it enters into force because the protocol will come into force as a legally binding international agreement only after 50 countries have ratified it. The precautionary principle is at the heart of this agreement. This means that countries have the right to ban or restrict the import and use of genetically engineered organisms when there is a lack of scientific knowledge or consensus regarding their safety. http://archive.greenpeace.org/~geneng/index.html JoAnn Guest mrsjo- DietaryTi- http://www.geocities.com/mrsjoguest/Melanoma.html The complete " Whole Body " Health line consists of the " AIM GARDEN TRIO " Ask About Health Professional Support Series: AIM Barleygreen " Wisdom of the Past, Food of the Future " http://www.geocities.com/mrsjoguest/AIM.html
