Guest guest
Just happened to had just had that problem. My daughter thought it was no big deal to bring home a kitten with ringworm. This was her first pet in her first own apartment she's sharing with others, one of which had a cat. So that cat got it along with everyone else, including kids she babysat for - except her. She learned a lesson. The best thing that kills it right away but is not natural is clorax diluted in water. We only used this on skin spots on people though. You use about 1 part clorax to 4 parts water. In the tub, pour it over the fungus spots, give it a minute and wash off. That kills it right there. I would be scared to use in the hair though and luckily, no one got it there. The vet had recommended baths in betadine for the cat. Betadine is toxic though. Her cat had it really bad and on its face. The betadine irritated the eyes and made her vomit so we stopped it after a few baths. It did not seem to be helping anyway. The owners of the liter where she got the cat though said they bathed in betadine one time and that did it for the other cats. We tried a tea tree oil cream on the cat but the ringworm got worse so we used tea tree oil soap for baths to cut down the sporing and then coated her in gensing violet. I'm not sure what gensing violet is but it kills the ringworm almost immediately and is not toxic. The one problem with it is that it is very violet and stains purple so you have to be careful when you use it. We had a purple cat for a couple of weeks - she'd lick it so her mouth was purple as well. Quite a sight to see. But it cleared it up. We also feed her better food and cat vitamins to help her immune system, vacumed constant to help minimize spours, and washed sheets, clothes etc. in borax. Everyone got tea tree oil soap to bath in until everyone and cats were all cleared up. Pharmacists usually have the gensing violet back behind their counter - it is not perscription. I paid $3 for it - can't buy much of anything at that price. I read in a alternative med guide at GNC that garlic was the best to use over tea tree oil for ringworm but you have to make a paste with it, cover the spot with the paste, then cover with a breathing guaze. That's not too practical for a cat, and depending on the location on a person, could pose a problem.
