Hypertension- The " Silent Killer "

Current research indicates many natural substances

lower blood pressure.

Thirty-three different studies indicate that Potassium can reduce blood

pressure! We are facing an epidemic of high blood pressure, with

approximately 55 Million Americans currently diagnosed with this

illness.

Hawthorn- Hawthorn extract can widen (dilate) blood vessels, especially

the coronary arteries. It has been used as a heart tonic for centuries!

Broccoli- This vegetable has at least six chemicals that reduce blood

pressure! Carrot.... Carrots contain eight compounds that lower blood

pressure!

Magnesium- To get magnesium, turn to leafy greens, legumes and whole

grains. Purslane, poppy seeds, nuts and string beans are the best dietary

sources.

Saffron- This herb contains a blood pressure-lowering chemical called

" Crocetin " Some authorities speculate that the low incidence of heart

disease in Spain is due to that nation's high saffron consumption! Use

it in your cooking or make a tea with it.

Spices- Fennel has at least ten compounds that lower blood pressure,

oregano has seven, and basil and tarragon each have six! Obtain organic spices

if at all possible. Traditional spices presently undergo the irradiation

process.

Magnesium- A recently released study known as the " Honolulu Heart

Study, " consistently showed that the lower the blood magnesium levels,

the higher the risk of heart attack and the development of high blood

pressure!

400 mg of magnesium daily in three different forms: oxide, citrate, and

alpha ketoglutate will dramatically reduce your blood pressure level.

Magnesium lowers cholesterol as well.

Celery-

Celery has long been recommended in Chinese medicine for lowering high

blood pressure! Eating as few as four stalks a day has proven to

significantly lower blood pressure levels!

With increased Potassium intake, people excreted much larger amounts of

sodium from their bodies! We recommend Potassium in the Citrate form at

a total of 99mg. daily!

Potassium- has been demonstrated in several studies to protect the

kidneys because of it's role in protecting the lining of blood vessels

from damage.

Consuming five or more fruits and vegetables daily is the ideal way to

obtain sufficient Potassium.

Garlic- This wonder herb not only helps normalize blood pressure, it

also reduces cholesterol. Studies conducted using one garlic clove a day

for 12 weeks, significantly lowered blood pressure levels!

Polyphenols- A particular association has been reported between certain

polyphenols found in Olive Oil and the lowering of blood pressure.

Olive oil has more " good " fats and " good cholesterol " per tblsp than

any other cooking or salad oil and offsets damaging effects of omega-6

oils, so prevalent in our western diets. Monosaturated (oleic) fats in

olive oil provide a unique benefit in that they facilitate the entrance

of essential fatty acids into our cells in a way which none of the

refined oils do. In fact all the refined oils containing omega-6s tend

to destroy essential fatty acids rather than preserve them.

A study at Stanford shows that polyphenols (omega-9s) in olive oil lower

blood pressure. In the study, scientists examined 76 middle aged men with

high blood pressure. Three tblsp a day lowered systolic pressure by 9

points and diastolic pressure by 6 points!

" Fats that heal, fats that kill " by Udo Urasmus. Ph.d. (Alive books)

In the Medical Journal " Archives of Internal Medicine, " the daily use of

one to two tablespoons of olive oil showed a marked reduction in the

required dosage of blood pressure medications! Patients who were on

Anti-hypertensive Medications were able to cut their medicine dosage in

half after only a few months!
